I almost choked on my ham and eggs this morning. The local paper(Times-Standard) had a front page AP story about Arnold missing the debate. Near the end was this strangler...F Warren Hellman is on Arnolds "council" and on Thursday Hellman donated $50,000 to the Save Davis Recall Committee. There was not a link to the story but I'm sure someone could check the state campaign donations web site to verify it.

tubebender, I've checked the site but come up empty. It could be that the contribution has not been entered on the site yet. They have anywhere from 24 hours to 10 days. I will keep checking.

I found some other interesting data. The 'Lungren Committee for Common Sense Conservatism' gave Gray Davis 10,000 dollars. The Republican Central Committees of three counties (Nevada, Colusa and San Luis Obispo) also gave money to him early in the recall process.

San Francisco investment banker Warren Hellman got quite an earful at his meeting with Gov. Gray Davis the other day, when he had to explain why -- after years of supporting Davis and coming out against the recall -- he showed up at Arnold Schwarzenegger's big economic summit.

"I've got some good news and bad news," Hellman reportedly told the governor when they met behind closed doors at an anti-recall fund-raiser at the Fairmont Hotel.

"I'm giving lots of money against the recall because I don't think it's right, but I'm supporting Schwarzenegger," Hellman said.

"What, after everything I've done for you?" the governor shot back.
