Poll Names McClintock as Winner of the Debate

State Senator Tom McClintock came out on top in a poll that gauged public reaction to Wednesday's candidate debate.

A News10/SurveyUSA poll found that 30 percent of California voters felt McClintock won the debate. Twenty-two percent of those questioned said Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante was number one, while 12 percent named Peter Ueberroth as the winner. Arianna Huffington was favored by nine percent of those surveyed, while three percent said Peter Camejo won.

As evidence that the election is still very much up for grabs, the survey found 24 percent of voters either undecided about the winner of the debate or with no favorite.

The poll showed that Arnold Schwarzenegger's decision to skip the debate may have been costly. Fifty-five percent of voters felt it was the wrong thing to do, while 37 percent approved of the actor's absence. Eight percent had no opinion.

According to the survey, Gov. Gray Davis' half-hour appearance prior to the debate may not have improved his chances of avoiding recall. About a third of those surveyed, 36 percent, said the question-and-answer session caused their opinion of Davis to fall. Seventeen percent came away from the telecast with a better impression of the governor, while 46 percent said their opinion was unchanged.

,

The poll questioned 1,444 registered California voters in the hours immediately following the debate. Margin of error for the survey is %.1 percent.

No! No! No! I wasn't being dismissive or critical of what you posted! No way!!!

Seeing his name just reminded me of some of his legendary stunts he's pulled to win campaigns here for Congressional races in their infancy. You either love 'em, or ya hate 'em!!!

Yes, the tripling of the car tax. So, why would Democrats who supported recall because Davis tripled the car tax support Bustamante who wants to triple the property tax? Would they "hold their nose" and keep Davis despite his tripling the car tax (and now giving away driver's licenses) rather than vote for a Republican in a recall election that they themselves supported?

Democrats could be done in by the stupidity of
their base.

And if their base is so stupid it doesn't even
know how to vote correctly what does that tell you?!

Survey USA was by far the worse poll in 2002.
No one takes it seriously.

They percieve the Car Tax as hurting EVERYBODY, especially the poor! They've HATED Prop 13 for a quarter century and think it's unfair. Especially since hated corporations have benefitted and Cruz has convinced the fools he won't hurt the homeowners, only the evil corportations! (who provide a lot of the private sector jobs)(but they're blinded by class envy, yaknow)

Did USA Survey blow it in the 2002 election predictions as some are saying on this thread?

It tells me that this can be a setup for the liberal court system to get involved and drag it out for several months....

I can just see it now.

Idiot Voter-"But we thought that we couldn't vote if we picked no! We DEFINITELY would have voted for Bustamove if we had known....."

Court- "In the interest of voter intent, we are ordering a re-re-re-re-recount like in Florida....we are also ordering a re-vote to give the morons--uh, the voters a second chance to elect the correct, er- candidate of their choice."

But- one CAN hope that becuase of inate idiocy we can gain a few percentage points just becuase...

Arianna fighting for the same votes as Cruz.

Arianna may actually hope to do well enough to
get elected statewide another time.

Won't happen but that would be her motive to
attack Cruz.

Survey USA was by far the worse poll in 2002.

That simply is not true. 1) Zogby was the worst pollster for 2002; 2) SurveyUSA's past results speak for themself. Visit their website.

"Arianna may actually hope to do well enough to

I am doing my best to talk up Arianna to some idiot friends of my wifes' who I think are going to vote for Bustamove. No way are they voting for Arnie ot Mac. Maybe she can be a spoiler-mini for Busty. Never know until the votes are counted for the 6th time. Little lesson I learned in Flori-doh! when I was back there. Who knew math was so hard!

There are things Republicans could learn from them, like how to win.

If it requires emulating Democrats, I'd rather lose.

"2. Davis defeats the Recall with massive telephone bank support from government employee UNIONS!"

Keep your chin up, Wasp!! I think Davis is a goner.

Maybe the Sacramento bumbling Bee is smart enough to conspire; equally likely they are just screwed up.

I just can't forget how fast and how tightly wound the government unions got over Prop 226 and how that success spread to the complete Demonicrat takeover of EVERY elective constitutional position in this state!!!

They now know how to beat a recall, or any other proposition or referendum and Lord knows, they sure know how to shop judges!!!
