I will pass this on to my sister. She lives 5 hours from me. Those books are the ones I left in her garage.

Thanks alot, this is fun. I have gotten alot of good information for my future search of old books.

My problem is I don't like to part with any cool old stuff.

I read when I was in high school, and I thought Holden Caulfield was a hero. I read it again when I turned forty, and I thought he was a @$$hole.

Meaning, about the font package. Is a special character (font) package needed to run it through a translator.

Print a few pages of the microfiche than scan it to save as a text file.

I have a reprint of the memoirs of US grant. A great read, and as truthful as he could be, with the exception of his "fell off a horse" euphemism for when he got roaring drunk during the siege of Vicksburg.

His ghostwriter was Mark Twain.

I don't think it can be put into a translator without retyping it because its such an old book. I don't think my son has tried yet. Maybe I will ask him to help me scan it in tonight.

What will I ever do when he goes off to college?

I have a copy of "Personal Memoirs of U. S. Grant" New York: Charles L. Webster & Company. 1885. Looks to be hand signed on May 23, 1885. Pink notes attached in book stating The Book is finished. Sold only by Subscription, then it lists pages of Subscriber's names, residence & style of binding chosen. The three types of binding are glued into the cover for samples. My great-uncle owned the new Uncle Sam, that was purchased by the gov't & converted into the "Blackhawk" that was used as the Flagship commanded by U. S. Grant in the battle of Vicksburg. My great-uncle was his pilot, Capt. George W. Stewart. Possibly this is a copy that belonged to him? Any ideas about this & possibly the books value? Thanks
