[history]
The death of a university student who contracted a fatal heart infection after having a swirling tribal tattoo pricked into his forearm this summer, has revealed a gaping hole in California's regulation of tattoo and piercing parlors. Despite passage in 1997 of a law designed to ensure cleanliness and safety, the state Department of Health Services has never drawn up regulations for oversight, leaving the body art industry less regulated than other cosmetic professions that involve noninvasive procedures.

Don't pester everyone else. Grieving through legislation has become an American phenomenon.

I can't conceive of anything more savage than permanently defacing your body for the sake of "ornament." Caveat emptor. Smoking, doing drugs or being overweight are all much more savage.

When will this abominable fad go out of fashion? But I am trying to figure out how to invest in tattoo-removing technology. That would be a winner...

My question is, what's going to happen when these kids try to join the human race? Don't they realize they'll never have a decent job? Don't kid yourselves. Employers do not want freaks. My spouse regaled me yesterday with the story of a young man who tried to enlist in the Air Force, was accepted, and scheduled to report to basic training next week. At some point between signing the paperwork and reporting, he went out and got a tattoo that covered half of his entire neck. Now the Air Force doesn't want him, and he'll either have to get the infernal thing removed or go find some other line of work.

No way! That looks more of the male gender.

What about cutting a person's eyelids off, paper cutting their eyeballs then planting them face first in a pile of fire ants? Is that more savage? It's quite savage indeed, but since it's done by savages we can probably view it with a bit more understanding.

Now this bozo is a fashion statement, single-minded, dedicated and eccentric because obviously there is no room on his carcass for a side show or a change of pace. Reminds me of an old TV I had that was stuck on one channel.
And a double post is ok, we needed a double-take anyway!
YUCK!!!

Gen-X is hitting mid 30's-40 The kids with whom I go to school (Cal State) that are moving into managerial careers are not defacing their bodies. These kids find tatooing and piercing to be as offensive as the rest of us. And they will be the ones doing the hiring.
Conservativism and common-sense are not relegated to any particular age group. Freaks will always be freaks.

Don't insult The Grinch that way! :)

Smoking, doing drugs or being overweight are all much more savage. I'll go along with the smoking and doing drugs, but being overweight is a consequence of eating, a natural function. Now if people are trying to get grotesquely fat for what they deem to be aesthetic reasons, I'd agree that such an effort would qualify as savage.

Being 50 pounds overweight and not caring is savage.

I'm considered a "Gen-Xer", and all but a few of my friends are republican's and vote that way. They are not as politically involved as I am.
The biggest issue with my liberal friends is the "abortion" issue. I refuse to talk about it with them because it is my strongest believe, and I don't want to verbally brawl with my good friends. Abortion is the biggest and the least most spoken issue with me. I may not be a mother but anything involving harm/death of child gets me angry. They are the innocent gifts from G-d.

Employers do not want freaks. The circus does. Who would have thought that so many kids would still want to run away and join the circus.
