What would Jesus do? Maybe, if he couldn't lure the modern masses to church, he would build a place to enjoy a basketball game, a yoga stretch, a play or a meal. That's Pasadena Community Church's $3.8-million idea. By WAVENEY ANN MOORE, Times Staff Writer © St. Petersburg Times published September 25, 2002

Souvenir copies of the floor plan for the new building, which also will be used by the church's day school, were distributed as Sunday's crowd entered the center for tours and refreshments. A large multipurpose room, which transforms into basketball and volleyball courts, dining room and auditorium, has been named Jerger Hall in honor of longtime church members Evelyn and Richard Jerger's "very significant" donation.

A "very significant" donation on a 3.8 million dollar building. That's got to be an awful lot of money they gave, for it to be significant to 3.8 million. Is this the same Jerger? Is there THAT much money in insurance? That's an awful lot of money.

That sort of philanthropy always reminds me that those who have such deep pockets seem to also be so "well-respected" in their communities. Barf!
