Ironic that it was easier to learn about an elected official who was most likely one of GW Greer's ancestors.
Cochranton Borough [Pennsylvania] was created by order of the Court of Quarter Sessions April 5, 1855, in response to a petition presented by C. Cochran and twenty-nine other residents of the village. The first election was held April 14, 1855, when James Greer was elected Burgess

Another Terri thread has been started today.
Terri Schiavo's fate is once again in the hands of the court [Emergency hearing today!]
I would strongly urge you to refrain from posting to it, as we will loose the continuity in communication this single thread has facilitated.
Tracking the latest developments is difficult enough on this thread without necessitating a review of other threads as well. IMHO.
To: Robert Drobot
Robert, if people have questions, we ought to answer as best we can, and that includes on other threads.

I answered some of the questions on the other thread, but Robert is right in that it is best to keep everything on this large thread.
I am apprehensive about what this "judge" may decide this afternoon.
To: syriacus
Your post this morning on the Marilyn Bartlett case in New York needs to be FAXED, ASAP to the legal team, in my (legally challenged) opinion.
They need to march into that courtroom with this case, and make the judge's face twitch for all it's worth!
"Judge Greer, you MUST allow Terri time to eat. If you do not, you are violating FEDERAL LAW."
This is a case that has already gone to the Supreme Court. That's called "precedent", and judges MUST sit up and take serious notice, regardless of their "agendas", or it's immediate grounds for appeal. I'd like to see the higher State Court take his "mandate" and tear it up into little pieces!
One line from the article you linked caught my attention.
"The determination of whether an individual has a disability is based upon the effect that impairment has on the life of the individual. Thus, Judge Sonia Sotomayor held that the effect of the plaintiff's reading impairment on her life, even with all her self-accommodations, is profound and that she is SUBSTANTIALLY LIMITED IN THE MAJOR LIFE FUNCTION OF READING, in comparison to most people."
Isn't Terri SUBSTANTIALLY LIMITED IN THE MAJOR LIFE FUNCTION OF EATING,
in comparison to most people?
Isn't eating MORE IMPORTANT than reading?

FreeRepublic has tens-of-thousands of brief visitors, readers who zip on and off the site. If they open a thread and don't have the itme to read nearly 4000 repsonses, they will search for a much shorter thread addressing the same issue. we who are actively trying to help stop this judge approved and ordered execution of an innocent, disabled, sentient woman can continue to exchange via this big thread, but I for one will do all I can to answer the questions of passing visitors clicking onto shorter threads, thank you very much.

Well, you are saying that some will look at the shorter post only. Going to the end of the long thread does turn off some people. There are pros and cons to each point.
Let's hope that however we post, it does "make a difference," another favorite liberal phrase.
To: windchime
There's hope yet for our country! A liberal leftist get's it right on this issue!
One line really caught my attention.
"I was surprised to see how specific Florida law is on these points. Chapter 765 of the Florida Statutes is careful to include "artificially provided sustenance and hydration" in the list of things that are considered to be "life-prolonging procedures" that may be declined."
The 199 statutory amendment includes "ARTIFICIALLY PROVIDED SUSTENANCE AND HYDRATION".
It says NOTHING about "NATURALLY PROVIDED SUSTENANCE AND HYDRATION"
LET TERRI LEARN TO EAT!! LET HER BE FED "NATURALLY"!!

I agree, and I intend to do the same. If I can I will try to direct them to a link in this thread, but I will still try to answer their questions. Someone once did the same for me, and I am grateful that they took the time. There's a lot of info on this thread to read, even if you've been on since its beginning and have been trying to stay caught up. It's too intimidating for some.

I can't find a fax number for Terri's legal team
Can anyone supply one for me?
Anyone else getting a lot of "Internal Server Error" messages here like I am?

Yes, I've been getting those "Internal Server Error" things too.
I sent a Email to the webmaster about it.
Never happened before.

I am and am extremely frustrated as I don't have TV and am counting on FR to keep me up to date on the hearing today. Does anyone know if it is going to be covered on TV?
Still praying..

If you mean Christopher Reeve, I've contacted them twice in the hopes his foundation would make a statement on Terri's behalf and have been turned down both times. Other people who did not want to get involved (either with or without response):
Dr. Laura
Rush Limbaugh (in all fairness, it's not really his format, but still...)
ACLU
National Organization of Women
Department of Children and Families
State Attorney Bernie McCabe
Pope John Paul
Florida Attorney General Charlie Crist
US Attorney General Ashcroft
Brain Injury Association of Florida
Florida Medical Association
US Department of Health and Human Services
National Association of Protection and Advocacy
That's all I can think of at the moment, but there are plenty more. I had contacted Joni Erickson Tada and didn't receive a response, but have been told she featured Terri's story in a recent broadcast.
The others, I simply cannot excuse.

I have heard from a couple of media outlets today, but I don't imagine it will be televised live as last Thursday's hearing was. I will check back in the moment I hear something from today's hearing. I'm not able to attend as my regular work is in a pile today.
The hearing is scheduled for 3.00pm and relates to the Petition for Judicial Intervention - NOT the ruling to schedule removal of Terri's feeding tube. We expect that particular hearing to be Wednesday.
