Much of (Arnolds) strategy is based on cross over appeal to non-Republican voters given his comparitvely moderate views on issues such as gun control, abortion and gay rights.

But less than two weeks into his first run for elected office, Schwarznegger has already become a politically polarizing figure.

Roughly seven in ten Democratic voters have an unfavorable impression of the action-movie star, while the same number of likely Republican voters expressed a favorable view.

The actor won the support of 39% of likely Republican voters, 20% of Independents, and 7% of Democrats polled.

McClintock recieved 21% of the Republican vote, Simon recieved 12% and Uberroth 10%.

Apparently there is no reasoning with some people. They'd rather have Cruz Bustamonte than Arnold. That IS the choice.

Exactly.
This board tells us that the Republicans will go down once again fighting over who is or isn't conservative enough.
And they will help elect another Democrat disaster as CA Gov.

Scuse me? when you get things right I can address them.. as far as being "for abortion" I dont think he is FOR abortion but simply allowing a person the right to decide what goes on within their bodies --- I don't see a "kill your kid" movement

I'm sorry. I can that you're one of those types easily confused by liberal newspeak. You see, by believing that a "woman's right to choose" is doubleplusgood means that you are for the continued inhumane slaughter of babies. The so-called "pro-choice" movement is, in fact, the "kill your kid" movement despite all of its PC trappings. And all the evidence so far shows that Arnold is for it. Being for the continued slaughter of babies is instant qualification for the designation of RINO.

He can support Bush in 2004 without being the Governator. As for being "slightly more conservative" than Red Davis/Bustamove, that's not very reassuring.

True, but as Governor it holds a lot more weight, especially if that Governor is popular at the time. He may be only slightly more conservative, but there are only 2 choices in this race currently.

FReepers can read this and make their own decisions. They can decide who should be embarassed.

I don't keep my arguments from fellow FReepers. Why do you feel you have to? I welcome posts contradicting mine. That's what this site is all about. A free exchange of ideas. That's how we grow.

Why do you feel you have to hide yours?

Hear, hear.

Political lightweight and narcissistic dabbler Arnold must earn the respect of conservatives--not expect it as his entitlement.

McClintock has earned not just the respect of declared Republicans, but of all thinking men and women of good faith who desire good government.

I hope McClintock has another career he can fall back on, (although I doubt it being that he's a life-time politican).

I don't understand why this is not being addressed. Tom has been in gov't employ since 1984, when he was elected to the CA assembly at the age of 26. While he might be a respected conservative, the bottom line is that he, in essence, is only a theorist. While Arnie might not have all the qualities the right desires, at least he's been out doing the walk instead of just the talk.

Okay, that's fair. So let's look deeper. What of the Senate seats and the state government seats? And the governor's mansion. Do those results also support your position that California is a majority conservative state that longs to see a conservative available to elect?

Certainly not the Senate, since we all have only 2. Don't forget that if it wasn't for Arrinna Huffington having illegal immigrants work at her house revealed in the week of the election, Feinstein's razor sharp win (democrates would have screamed it was stolen, but we have class) over her then hetro husband would have been a sizeable defeat. Boxer also won by the most slim or margins in her last election, and is considered more than likely to lose in '04.

Tony Strickland, who is a good friend of Tom's and served in his staff if I remember correct, has already announced his candidacy.

As for the Gov's mansion, take a look at the modern political landscape. We've had 2 Democratic Govs since the mid 1960s. Jerry Brown, the son of a former Democrate from another age, who left office in scandal and disgrace, and Gray Davis, who is going to be recalled from office less than 12 months after his second term. All the others had an 'R', including unabashed conservative Ronald Reagan, who won during the 1960s and the Berkeley idiocy.

We aren't perfect, but we are a work in progress, if my fellow CA's had some optimism and confidence in the superiority of their ideas. CA has a long history of low turnout when a conservative isn't on the ballot.

Thank you for making that plain. It would provide FReepers a great service if you would just place that quote on your Profile page. Thereby we can judge the content of your character (or lack thereof).

I see you're still spreading your usual fertilizer around in FreeRepublic. Boxer won by a 10-point margin over Matt Fong in '98; hardly a "most slim or (sic) margins".

Got any other dubious "facts" to post?
