Much of (Arnolds) strategy is based on cross over appeal to non-Republican voters given his comparitvely moderate views on issues such as gun control, abortion and gay rights.

But less than two weeks into his first run for elected office, Schwarznegger has already become a politically polarizing figure.

Roughly seven in ten Democratic voters have an unfavorable impression of the action-movie star, while the same number of likely Republican voters expressed a favorable view.

The actor won the support of 39% of likely Republican voters, 20% of Independents, and 7% of Democrats polled.

McClintock recieved 21% of the Republican vote, Simon recieved 12% and Uberroth 10%.

I actually like what's happening in California because it just keeps sending people and businesses our way.

That's total Dog dung

First everyone is sreaming about the libs from Cal invading their states, now you say you like it.

The fact of the matter is, Texas, like Cal is literally over-run will hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens, and others that are now deciding to call Texas home.

Here's a small example for you.

The HoustonChronicle.com ^ | August 2002 | Edward Hegstrom

Texas has one of the nation's fastest-growing Middle Eastern populations, and most of the state's immigrants live in Houston, according to a study based on census data.

Researchers at the Center for Immigration Studies say Texas' Middle Eastern population more than doubled in the last decade, to just over 100,000, including more than 52,000 in Greater Houston.

"Don't expect votes from those who do."

Don't expect to get elected in California -

... and If you have no chance of being elected, why bother running ?

All McClintock lovers: I agree; he talks the talk. Show me where he has walked the walk. His hands are somewhat tied with that Legislature, but someone I know knows him and is not sure, even with all he says, that he is a man of action.

The problem is in the math. There are a million and a half more Dems than Reps, augmented by 150,000 Greens. Further, there are over 2 million Independents, who have not been swayed to harder line GOP candidates, and who like to hang in the middle.

McClintock could take every single Republican vote and still lose.

"Start. Be honest. Put your vote where you issues are."

No reason to, many things that they would like me to labeled a "flaming liberal" for are not going to be changed no matter who is Gov.

If the Democrats ever wrest control of their party from the true flaming Liberals" I may consider it.

Um, except that we conservatives in Texas, as opposed to being politically inept morons like conservatives in some other state I can think of, have the Hispanic crowd voting 50/50 now and only trending more towards conservatism. GOPs elected across the board: The U.S. President, both U.S. Senators, soon to be a strong majority of U.S. Congress representatives, our Governor, our Lieutenant Governor, a strong majority of our judges, both houses at the state level, and on and on...

See... in California, conservatives tend to see all immigrants as "illegals", "Turd Worlders" and "liberals" (as FR posters demonstrate constantly), but in Texas, we seek prospects and work to be done. So we quit bitching and building our militia bunkers and get to work. And we're winning. Overwhelmingly.

I'm thinking they may have some dirt on Arnie and are going to release it close to election (like they did with Bush and the DUI story). Then the cross over voters will go back to Bustamonte and he wins.

What could they possibly have on Arnold that would cause liberals to "go back" to Bustamente? Affairs? An illegitimate child? Steroids? Come on, not even a video of Arnold with another guy would disturb liberals. I bet if Bustamente could be shown with a naked girl on his shoulders, his #s would go up!

Yep you are right, COnsevratives in FL and TX are smart and know the difference between legal and illegal immgrants.

IN FL and TX GOP Wins by getting lots of Hispanic votes... but in CA most of hispanics hate the GOP.

Hey!! I am not voting for Bustamonte! I am voting for a positive change. I am voting for a man who understands economics and business. A man who has surrounded himself with some of the best minds in the world. I am voting for a man who wants to reach out to all Californians, who has hope for a better California. A man who made his money on his own, not on the public dole.

Your not voting at all.........unless you live in California

And don't get me wrong... Texans are every bit for enforcing our borders as Californians are. We just don't despise and hate people that often times have just come to work. I'd like to see our border enforced more actively so that we can then bring these people over in manner that is safer for them and will allow them a legal process in which to become American citizens since, having worked with Mexican immigrants, lived in Mexico for half a year, and knowing many of these people, I realize that overwhelmingly they are hard-working, solid people that far from wanting to isolate myself from and hate, I'd like to get to know more and teach them why conservatism is the way to go. We are doing this and they are getting it. Big time.

How dare you voice optimism, hope and a positive attitude here on FR. You might actually convince someone that they not doomed - and that is just wrong.
