The church teaches an "all powerful, ever-living God".

The gospel of John tells us that if everything Jesus did were written down, they would fill a lot of books or the books wouldn't contain it all. We aren't told what all the devils cast out by Jesus were.

We are told "the demon entered Judas". What if Judas had acknowledged his temptation and asked Jesus for help?

When Jesus does touch on the subject, if indeed it was this subject, he didn't spell it out explicitly for us, perhaps because these matters were so sensitive they weren't discussed publicly but very privately and would not have been consigned to the written word.

The bible tells us that he healed all the people who asked him, usually with a prerequisite of faith on the part of the person or an intercessor.

There but by the grace of God go any number of us.

I even know atheists who wouldn't molest a child or hurt anyone in any way.

I agree though that we don't know this Geoghan wasn't redeemed while he was dying. He might have tried to pull something on some prisoner and the others defended him, or maybe it was a self-defense killing? But as he was being murdered, his suffering might have brought him some kind of redemption --- maybe that he would never have reached if left to live his life out comfortably.
