Totally unrealistic. You can't plan to shoot to wound. That's for Hollywood. Think about trying to hit a moving arm or leg.
I don't know all the facts, so I can't say that the LEO's weren't a little hasty. But if it gets to that point - for police or private citizen - center mass is your friend....

You're right...you can't expect a cop shooting from 3 feet away to hit a leg.
The cop is indeed fortunate that he was able to hit the guy at all from that distance.

You can't plan to shoot to wound. From "three steps" away? If you can't hit someone in a lower extremity from that close, you don't deserve to be carrying a firearm. Period.
