Good point. I never quite understand situations like this where the officer clearly has the firepower advantage yet shoots to kill. But then again, I've never been there. But it just doesn't seem right in a situation where a guy is swinging a rake to shoot to kill.

You guys counseling arm and leg shots really ought to take the trouble to educate yourself before you post your ignorant opinions and come off looking like idiots. Let's review some facts:

1) It is wickedly difficult to hit a moving target under the best of circumstances.

2) In tense situations, certain physiological changes make it much harder to perform fine motor skills such as aiming and pulling a trigger.

3) Arm shots (rarely) and leg shots (easily) can be fatal.

4) Criminals have been shot in the head or heart and still lived long enough to fatally injure a police officer.
