Look at it this way: Why do you assume that the cop was right and NOT a vicious moster? Shouldn't we, if we want to stay a free people, question every shooting and demand that the shooter justify their killing instead of giving them a pass? This applies to cops and private citizens. If you had just read that a private person killed a neighbor swinging a rake what would your reations be? That a gun was a senseless response?

If it's true, I would have shot him. Once this guy initiated violence, expect violence in return. And you KNOW what happens when you bring a rake to a gunfight.
