That's the intelligent way --- and if the soon-to-be ex is half way sane they'll agree to work it out. A couple can figure out the woman is likely to get custody, the house and whatever is in it ---then be adults and work out the rest themselves or otherwise all they do is make some lawyers rich. I know people who spent thousands on attornies, fought over everything but both ended up with almost nothing ---the lawyers got it all.

yep thats the worst part of divorce. if you cant be kind to each other and work stuff out the lawyers are the ones that make out like a bandit! so far, just responding to his petty stuff has cost me over 50,000 in 2 years. nuts!
i even tried for a change of jurisdiction and was denied by the fathers "home state". i thought it was federal law since weve lived here for 6 years. before anyone jumps on me for moving, it was agreed...my x even rushed my moving van down the street because he was having a party.
