How he gets reelected is a deep insight into the lack of character or integrity of his constituents. He represents them well because he is exactly what they want in a representative: A rude, obnoxious, racist jerk willing to metaphorically rape and pillage the rest of the state to get what he wants.

I like his definition of a poll tax. Special Kudos to the interviewer for his supreme patience throughout the interview. (Plus it seemed like he know his stuff!)

Ellis gets reelected because he "talks back to power." People in the poorer parts of Houston like a "leader" who uses his "big mouth" to mouth off at "white folks."
