I work in a Network Operations Center and we are seeing massive outages all over multiple networks across the country.

How could this have anything to do with this. Any outages in mid west or west coast?

The majority are in Ohio and mostly the East Coast. We see citywide power outages here frequently. MCI and AT&T networks are among the worst hit.
