It was a standard routine of Abbott and Costello's. They did it in several movies among them "Lost in a Harem".

We kids back in the forties just loved those movies, and howled everytime A&C did the routine.

In those days, kids were easily amused.

Comic duo Bud Abbott and Lou Costello star as Pete and Harvey, a pair of American magicians stranded with nightclub singer Hazel Moon (Marilyn Maxwell) in a desert kingdom ruled by the wicked Nimativ (Douglas Dumbrille), ouster of the rightful heir, Prince Ramo (John Conte). Ramo hires Hazel to seduce Nimativ, and Pete and Harvey to steal the source of his power: a pair of hypnosis-inducing rings. The film features sets and costumes originally used in Kismet (also released in 1944). Bud and Lou perform their classic routines, "Slowly I Turned" and "Mike's Place."
