Why is Bush adressing the nation over a lightning strike

And if President Bush didn't speak he'd be criticized for being insensitive to the needs of the country. Left/Media would attack him for being too busy with fundraisers and vacation to take the time out to comfort the nation.

Times have changed since 9/11. I've been following this thread from the beginning. There are some real tin-foil-hat theories out there. I think it is quite proper and necesary for the President to tell the nation (not just those affceted) what is going on - even if it is "everything is ok".

I hope he just issues a statement read by the press secretary and not do an "announcement" alone or even worse, in front of the press.

TOLD YOU SO! It's already starting. From Drudge:

18:01:48 ET // WHERE IS BUSH? President in motorcade, driving from Miramar, CA to Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego for a fund-raiser. He's scheduled to pull up at the Hyatt at 6:25 p.m. ET // White House source says that if he is to say anything about the power outage, it will be at the fund-raiser, where he is expected to speak at 9:30 pm. ET... Developing

And you all question why the President is speaking to the nation.
