Thanks for the reply, Sarge. I asked because it would seem that with nightfall coming, conditions can get wa-a-a-ay beyond what the civil authorities can control right quick. Just the presence of the Guard moving into key positions might have a reassuring, and restraining, effect on the populace.

Especially if the Leftists in the media stir up anti-military sentiment, in any of a dozen ways.
Our experience is, if the Guard gets called for civil disturbance, it's too far gone. We in KYgot alerted in early 2001, for the Cincinatti riots - thought was, the "oppressed masses" might just take it on the road into our state. never happened, and we stood down.
