Of course it's a joke. If anyone in real life hit Laura with all that raunch at once, she'd have a heart attack.

"...that the shear ORDER imposed by the Old Testament Law made the world a safe place for him. ..."

A very wise, thoughtful statement, in my opinion.

It has long been my observation that the emotionally AND/OR spiritually immature feel more comfortable choosing to be involved in legalistic religions. (It gets more complicated when one is born into a family situation - like being DemocRATS - it's hard to break the tradition).

If and when one matures emotionally he will have the confidence to break away from the pressures that come from family and tradition, and think for himself.

Then, if and when that one begins to mature spiritually, he will also move farther and farther away from self-focused legalism/ritualism, and closer and closer to a God-focused biblical Christianity. [A mature Christian speaks: 1 Cor.6:12; 1 Cor.8]

Each person is different, so each matures (or not) at his own rate. If God is working in someone's life, He is able, and will, make that person stand, regardless of any *outward appearance* criteria that hypocrites always use to condemn others who don't measure up to their standards.

A baby needs guard rails.

...she would've interupted the caller after the first sentence and called her a slut, whore and tart within 30 seconds.

In a way, that might be partially true. She does report that almost all of the correspondence she's gotten from Jews has been negative and almost all from Christians has been warm and encouraging. When you're confronted by these differences, you've got to say to yourself, "What's going on here? What's with Judaism that it confronts a newcomer with such hatred merely because she urges people to adhere to traditional Jewish moral values? Why are Christians more loving? Is it possible the Christians have something the Jews don't?" If her past behavior is any prediction of the future, right now she's studying her head off trying to learn about Christianity.

When someone is seeking unconditional love and inner peace there is only one true source. She's been seeking all her life from the sounds of things and the Bible says that if you seek you will find.

You have to remember too that her mother died a few months ago and that causes people to question the afterlife and what happens when you die. It could be that she wants that peace that *only* comes from a personal relationship with Christ.

Dr. Laura has often expressed a nostalgic taste for (non-Kosher) cheeseburgers!

Answering a question with an assumptive statement isn't quite what I was looking for. We're not talking about Salem witch trials here. We're not talking about religious zealotry. We're not talking about extremeism. We're talking about right versus wrong and how there has been a general relaxation in what we accept as right or at least OK.

I'm just asking you for a realistic example of how moralism can be counterproductive?

"You're not serious, right? This is a joke, right?"

My apologies if I mislead you. That was my "interpretation" of a Doctor Laura show. Sort of an "artist's rendering", if you will. Although, not as drastic, the few times I have tuned in, I have heard some people's problems that have been on par with these, maybe not all in one call, but sheesh, they'd leave Jerry Springer panting!

Between The Doctor Laura Show and Delilah, the world has some real winners out there.

I don't think she is a real doctor.

She does have a real PhD, therefore she is a "Doctor".

"Kosher Sex ?"

In one Jewish sect there is such a thing.

"True religious expressions are the acts of G*d through human vessels emptied of their own agendas. That is a religious aspect I see precious damn little of from all of the religious figures and their armies of zealots."

But man-centered religiosity gets all the heady applause from those who are impressed when they see it on parade.

And that's always going to be the majority in the audience.

See #62

THANKS.

Insightful.

Will pray more for her.

Being mangled by one's 'religious' cohorts is no fun.

Being left high and dry is no fun.

I'm glad she's an intense, earnest seeker. God says He rewards such by being quite findable.

We do have to relate to Him on His terms, however.

But exceedingly worth it--it is.

I do believe the Hound of Heaven has her in His sights.

Now IF ONLY well meaning and not so well meaning authentic and inauthentic "Christians" will not unduly hinder her trek.

Thankfully, The Hound of Heaven has resources and access even obnoxious Christians can't match.

Will pray for loving, wise, gentle Believers who have balance and are full of Holy Spirit to have the best and most effective access.

I do NOT read her as hypocritical by a very wide margin.

Agree.

1) I believe descendents of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob have an extra measure of spiritual intensity within them as a function of being children of The Promise. I believe that's one reason that when they get into the occult, it's a REALLY bad scene.

2) Likewise, when they get connected solidly with God and full of His Spirit walking with The Messiah--they are incredibly powerful in The Spirit, in The Lord.

3) Of course, satan is much against such happening at all costs.

4) I believe Dr Laura has been seeking nothing less than a confrontation/meeting with Almighty God and hasn't yet realized it. I'd be disappointed too.

5) Add in less than friendly, less than a close family feeling from what is supposedly the "family of God" and it's easy to understand her disillusionment.

Commmmmmonn.

The lady is one of the most authentic public spokespersons of any kind that we have around in our era.

I can't imagine her being an extrinsic Christian or anything else.

Have never seen her that way and still don't.

I wouldn't try to take out a mortgage on your skills about such.

She has deliberately chosen to somewhat live her life out in broad open daylight--perhaps somewhat with her listeners. It's a reasonable choice given her values and goals. I see nothing inauthentic about it. Courageous. Occasionally maybe cheeky. But not inauthentic.
