What would happen if you found the same viral renanis in the same place in hte genom of a whale and a cow, but didn't find it in the genome of a hippo? ditto, in people, orangutans, and chimps?
what would happen if you found a rabbit fossil in a coal seam ? Or a preCambrian amphibian?
Answer: You'd be well on your way to falsifying standard biology.
It did not stop biology when the hippo and whale were found to be the closest related genera among all other living genera. The paleontologists denied that for a while. When the DNA evidence was insurmountable, a suitable substitute for the ancestor of the whale was found that allowed it to be placed closer to the hippo. They now admit that the whale is an artiodactyl yet they refuse to place it close to the hippo. Why? Picture the pakicetus buried underneath the camels, pigs, ruminants, and hippos.
