There's a legend that a certain Christian once (in an act of random kindness) pulled a thorn from a lion's paw. Much later, when the lion became old, this same Christian was sentenced to be executed by wild animals in the Coliseum. The lion recoginzed the man who had done him a kindness and persuaded the other beasts to allow him to eat the man all by himself.
