It has everything to do with his argument. If you suddenly started posting about a British East India Company conspiracy to control the world, I would almost certainly mention medved in my reply, even if for no other reason than to remind everyone that we've "been here, done that" before today.
Does this mean that you consider the theory of evolution to be non-conservative, or the discovery of a new species to be non-conservative?
