The worst unemployment I ever experienced in my career was when GM had a "night of the long knives" and laid of gazillions of workers, starting with Roger Smith, the CEO. Middle management came next, then us lowly tech workers.

I couldn't find another job for three years. That was from 1992-1995. Who was in the White House then?

1990 was tough for me because I had a degree, but no experience. I got caught in that 'you need experience to get experience' loop. Also, with my new degree I had an inflated value of my worth. I eneded up working for hourly wages and working up.

Mid-1995 was probably the worst. I could afford the major bills, but I was lucky the gas station down the road took rolled up pennies for cigarettes. Also, Ramen noodles are pretty good if you slice up an onion and cook it with the noodles. Adds bulk, nutrition and flavor.
