Where's the evidence that proves this?
Why do anthropologists always seem to assume that ancient cultures are peaceful and egalitarian? Time after time, they find out they were wrong when they later discover signs of warfare, human sacrifice, cannibalism, slavery, or so forth. I don't understand why they even make such prognostications......

Also, they can judge from the bones how crippling arthritis and other diseases must have been for some.

Because the basis of leftist ideology is that people are good in their natural state and culture ruins them. They project this on to archaeological finds. Read the intro to Lawrence Keeley's War Before Civilization on Amazon (buy the book, too, but you can read the intro for free). His story about "fortifications" and "enclosures" is quite interesting.
