More specifically, and to the best of my knowledge, Bustamante would become governor temporarily, until the day after the recall vote. If the recall failed, Bustamante would remain governor for the remainder of Doofus' term. If the recall succeeded, then the winner of the recall would take over on Oct. 8.

And there is the seed for the Democrat strategy.

If Davis stays on, he is sure to lose and the replacement is up for grabs. The new governor could win with 15%-20% of the vote.

If Davis resigns and Bustamante takes over, then they just have to focus on getting people to vote NO on section 1 and the Dems keep the governorship without fighting for section 2.
