most people move for job opportunities. "The young people . . . tend to go where the action is, and the Southeast is where the employment action has been,"

And, yet, New York continues to strangle business in red tape and high taxes.

Sigh...

John Logan, a SUNY Albany professor who is an expert on migration [said] "The best hope for Upstate New York is to become more attractive to immigrants so it can replace the native population that is leaving."

Wha?!?!

Nothing against immigrants, but unless there are jobs here, what does this college professor expect them to do?

Wait. I know. Vote Democrat.

I left last year and went to Virginia. There is so much construction work going on, I would have stayed cept I didn't wantto raise my kids in that racist atmosphere.

I was offered a job back in Buffalo and moved back 3 months ago. I wonder when and if the politicos will ever get it. They are killing the businesses here with all the regulations, taxes etc.....

Upstae NY can be attractive...........

If you are an Eskimo!

I left Rochester, NY. in 1998. The economy, snow, taxes, draconian gun laws, a Mayor blaming ctime on everthing else but the perp, my ex-Rep. in Congress-- the filthy Louise Slaughter, George Pataki the Govenor flipped like a pole shift and the limosine liberal were just too much to take.

Good riddance NY State.

This is such crap. They are leaving due to several things, not the least of which is the fact that this dictatorial state is menace to its citizens by way of ridiculous law.

There is no such thing as private property here.

There is no 2nd Amendment here.

There is no relif from taxation unless you actively fight to get it.

There is no say in state government as 3 people run the state and the two senators will never be accessable to you.

There is poor planning in business here and what planning there centers on how the state can charge the business of this state for everything all the while making the poepl who work for them think they are getting a better deal when r4eally all they do ius chase business out of the state due to cumbersomb laws that restrict their ability to even make a good profit.

and on..and on..and on..and on..and on

As you know, I left Endicott NY in 1996 for NC after college in Buffalo NY. I have no regrets, love it here and it would take an act of God to get me to move back.

"On the whole, Upstate has been unsuccessful in attracting immigration from the Caribbean or Latin America or Asia," he said. "The best hope for Upstate New York is to become more attractive to immigrants so it can replace the native population that is leaving."

WRONG! NY needs to cut taxes, reduce regulation, and make NY (especially upstate) more business friendly. Soon the upstate area, especially Broome and surronding counties is going to be left with nothing but the elderly and be a giant medicare community.

Recent migration statistics from the IRS suggest the flow of people out of Central New York lessened considerably in 2002. Those numbers showed the annual net loss of people from migration fell to 1,800 last year, down from a peak of 8,000 in 1997.

Those who were going to leave have left, and the major employers such as IBM have already moved everybody out. There is no one left to leave!

NO! That is the worse thing that can happen.

They keep loading us up with foreigners who cannot find jobs. We can't even find jobs.

They have dumped thousands of Bosnians, Russians and now Bantu's from somewhere in Africa in one city in NYS.

Leave us alone.

Only two other major metropolitan areas - Honolulu and El Paso, Texas - lost larger percentages of their populations to migration.

Not surprising - El Paso is the second-nastiest city I've been to. (Amarillo was the nastiest.)

I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for snowy central New York, having gone to Syracuse. It's unfortunate that so many people are leaving.

Upstate NY, home of the infamous Genesee Cream Ale.

Went to Oneonta State, I still have nightmares about all the "Genny Screamers" I endured.

I have a visit to make to Ithaca in October. Hopefully that will end my need to come there, and if so, I will never voluntarily set foot in that town again.

"New York state has been sending people to the rest of the country for at least three decades and the principal reason is the stagnation of the economy, especially in Upstate New York,"

Stagnation caused by Liberals and Rinos because conservatives simply don't get elected in "moderate" New England states. Add to that the crappy winters and you don't need to be a rocket scientist to predict the exodus.
