PARTIAL BIRTH ABORTION BAN - THE BETRAYAL IS NOW COMPLETE

A politician would have a hard time finding a more loyal special interest group than with those of us who oppose the legalized child killing industry. For the last thirty years of the war on the unborn, we have worked tirelessly to elect pro-life, mostly Republican, politicians.

Our loyalty was so strong that even though the Republicans failed to deliver us a single pro-life victory, we continued to send them back to Washington year after year. For thirty years, we trusted the Republicans when they told us to be patient, because they had a plan and a party platform that said abortion was wrong.

We now know that everything they told us was a complete pack of lies.

We know that because the Senate has finally passed the long awaited "Partial Birth Abortion Ban," Senate Bill S.3. Rather than being a useful tool in the fight to stop a barbaric and indefensible method of child killing, S.3 reads more like an instruction manual for abortionists.

In what can only be described as the mildest abortion restrictions that one could possibly put into words, Sec.1531 instructs the "doctor" to make sure and kill the child before "in the case of a head-first presentation, the entire fetal head is outside the body of the mother". Or "in the case of breech presentation", make sure the child is killed before "any part of the fetal trunk past the navel is outside the body of the mother". (Actual text of SB S.3 in quotes)

With toothless restrictions like that, it is highly unlikely that even a single life will be saved. The only thing this will do is to make sure all the children are killed before the "entire fetal head" or the "fetal trunk past the navel" is showing. We waited thirty years for this?

Excuse me for shouting, but IF THE HEAD IS ALMOST OUT OF THE MOTHER, WHY DO YOU HAVE TO KILL THE KID? Do we hate children so much that we cannot wait 10 more seconds for the child to be born? 42,000,000 children killed since 1973 and this is the best they could come up with. What kind of people have we been putting into office?

If Senate Bill S.3 was just plain bad legislation, we could almost forgive the politicians for their incompetence. But believe it or not, this bill gets even worse. It gets a lot worse.

Not content to just write a watered down, sorry excuse for an abortion ban, the Senate goes on in Sec. 4, to let us all know "The Sense on the Senate Concerning Roe. v. Wade". I am not sure what kind of sense these people have, but we have definitely found out what we get for thirty years of loyalty. The 48 Republican Senators who voted to approve S.3, pledged that,

You need to read that again. I've read it about 20 times and it still hurts to look at it.

Please understand that it was not just a few renegade Senators who voted for this. It was 48 Republican Senators, including every one of them who ever told us they were pro-life, who put their name on a bill that says; Roe v. Wade was "appropriate." This is a clear, unambiguous reaffirmation of the illegal Supreme Court decision that started this whole mess back in 1973. If I had not read it for myself I would not believe it.

The extent of their betrayal is absolutely breath taking!

So now we know why the Republicans have gone thirty years without a single pro- life victory. These guys are not even pro-life! We have been fooling ourselves that somehow, despite all the evidence to the contrary, the years of partisan efforts were getting us closer to ending legalized abortion in America. But if the "sense" of the Senate is any indication, we have not even started the fight. We can now only hope that the House has enough sense to put S.3 out of it's misery.

A decades old policy of voting for the lesser of two evils has left us with a Republican Party that is a mere hollowed-out shell of its former self, broken beyond any hope of repair. The only way we are ever going to win this fight is by putting men and women of integrity into office who will not bow to the political pressures.

Clearly, the team we have in there now is not up to the task.

Partial- birth abortion ban hits snag over Roe v. Wade affirmation
"President Bush supports the ban, but there has been no indication if he would sign it into law if it included the Roe resolution."

U.S. Quietly OKs Fetal Stem Cell Work - Bush allows funding despite federal limits on embryo use

White House killed human-cloning ban
Although President Bush has endorsed a complete ban on human cloning sponsored by senators Sam Brownback, R.-Kan., and Mary Landrieu, D.- La., White House lobbyists contacted Republican senators June 18 to ask them to vote that morning for cloture (a closing of debate to bring a legislative question to a vote) on the Senate's terrorism insurance bill (S 2600), thus preventing an up-or-down vote on a human cloning amendment that Brownback wanted to attach to the bill. His amendment would have banned the patenting of human embryos – effectively destroying any economic incentive for the experimental cloning of human beings."

you and Luiz have people to discuss, surely...

I guess that's not a rude remark either, right?

I don't know WHY this is so hard for some folks to grasp.

It's not hard to grasp. It's just one more vehicle with which to exercise hysterical dissatisfaction with President Bush. Even when they win, it seems they'd rather lose.

If the abortionist does perform a PBA, under this law, he would have to prove that the procedure was essential to save the mother's life.

Perhaps I didn't make myself clear. How does the state enforce circumstances as you describe?

After all, with restrictions on a doctor's activity defined to the degree that this bill specifies there would have to be a judge sitting behind every abortion doctor's shoulder like an umpire. Do you see that happening?

It's not beyond their grasp, just beyond their agenda. Some people are concerned with ending abortion and understand that it must be done one step at a time.

Some people are simply interested in attacking the President and will fabricate any argument they can to attain that goal.

Hey, I'm fine with it. Personally, I'd like to see them strung up for murder. What I said was, the very same people who are complaining about this bill today will be here complaining like crazy when the first perps are prosecuted.

Is there a big loophole? Or are there other "Things" banned in another part of the bill that take care of this?

This entire thread was started when one of the members of the Legion of Doom and Gloom posted a stinkbomb of an article that portrayed the passage of this bill as the latest example of George W. Bush and the Great Joo Conspiracy selling the country down the river because they can. There is a contingent of loony extremists that have been a real pain in the ass lately, spamming this site with all kinds of crap about how we're all screwed and the country is doomed and it's all George Bush's fault. They hate Bush with an intensity that makes the rantings over at Delusions Unlimited seem like sane, reasoned discourse.

Unfortunately, they have managed to create a total NON-ISSUE with the PBA ban by distorting the bill's language, and fool some genuinely pro-life people here into believing that the Republican Party is bending them over yet again. These pro-lifers have been so taken by the venom these Bush-haters have been spewing that they cannot see they're being played like a bunch of cheap fiddles, for the purpose of siphoning conservative votes away from George Bush.

I've been checking on this thread throughout the day and cannot begin to express how dismayed I have been. For the first time I can remember, the tide of the abortion debate has turned in our favor. A clear majority of the public favors, at a bare minimum, very definite restrictions on abortion, if not a complete ban exept in very rare, very extreme circumstances. We're winning hearts and minds here, and for the very first time we have a chance to actually get a law placing some sort of restrictions on abortion enacted. Is this ban perfect? Absolutely not, but by God it's a start. It is, to steal a line from Senator Sot, a "down payment."

And now we're trying our best to piss all this progress away by screaming and kicking and holding our breath like little children throwing temper tantrums because we didn't get everything we wanted. And since we didn't get everything, by God we'll take nothing! And all the while that so many of us are pitching fits while playing little semantics games with one another, the people who would destroy the Republican Party, nay, the people who would DESTROY OUR NATION to make room for their little anarchist utopia, sit back and chuckle at us "Bots."

I suggest that everyone who has been contributing to or following this thread bookmark it. Because this PBA ban still may not make it into law if the Senate Rats decide they will take it down by refusing to budge in conference committee. And if that happens, I guarantee you that many of the same posters who have been running on and on all day about how the Republicans are a bunch of political whores and about how Bush is a sellout for offering this bill will be right back, stirring up fresh trouble by saying that Bush sold us out because he didn't fight for the PBA ban.

Laws are not designed to stop crimes from happening, they are designed to punish those who break them.

Even a full ban on late-term abortions would not hold up under your "what if"...as a matter of fact, no anti-abortion law would hold up under that light, or any laws for that matter.

The law would effectively end the practice for those who do not wish to do something that may bring about legal challenges, the rest will not be stopped by any law.

What is Liberty Post.com and why are messages to me being posted there when I've never posted a single thing at that 'site'(?)? The following is but one of a strange series there among the posts of which are some addressed to me! I was unaware that Askel5 had gone to this 'other' forum, yet it appears the posters there see nothing cowardly or insulting in posting to persons not even on their forum so unable to respond to their assertions:

Note, too, that they are still, after hours of this nonsense, dodging the issue of the "anything goes" implication in the bill before the whole head or the navel pops out.
That seems to be the one issue they haven't addressed...the JimBots have discussed my reasons for discussing this, posted my words, and grabbed the wrong end of the stick and started beating about the bush with it.
But they still haven't addressed anything I've posted in context.
How limp...
