I think it's pretty obvious when Ann calls liberals people who think they are gods, she means a law to themselves--selfish, unconcerned about anyone else.

His idea of liberalism being sourced in the desire to eliminate envy due to some primative totemism may have some validity. I especially think liberalism is sourced in ignorance, since many get cured of it as they get older and learn how the world works. But I think there are multiple causes and Mr. Wheeler is too simplistic.

So, in a way, both Coulter & Wheeler are right. Because Communism seeks to elimate the need for "envy" by enforcing "total equality". Wheeler's point is a good one though, and I've never really thought about it before, but Meg is good to point out its roots.

Look at all the nonsense today, like un-scored soccer games, etc. the whole looney quest for "no hurt feelings, ever! for any reason!" I myself should probably sue someone because I'm not a first round NFL draft pick (even though I'm a 45 year old woman who is actually exceptionally bad at athletics). There's definately some atavistic fear of envy going on there.

The authors main premise, "liberal guilt", does not explain why Julius and Ethel Rosenberg was spying on their country for Joseph Stalin and Russian communism. It might explain the angst felt by those who read the New York Times when Alger Hiss was convicted of spying. But it does not reconcile the Left and McCarthy.

There is an old saying that; "If you scratch a socialist, they bleed blue, just like an aristocrat". I think this is closer to the truth. The Left are aristocrats without enough title, lands, social and political power. In the case of Alger Hiss, he had plenty, but he wanted wanted more. Just like Ted Kennedy. For those in the vanguard of socialism; "Too much is not enough".

I think McCarthy's sin against the Left was that he was exposing their greed, and they hated him for it.

Liberals are insecure about their own morality and compassion. In fact, deep down at their core they disbelieve that they possess these virtues.

This insecurity causes them to commit ever-more-outrageous acts of "conspicuous compassion", in order to demonstrate to others -- and secretly to themselves-- their moral superiority.

But the black hole within the souls of liberals can never be sated. It will eat the world--consume the universe--if not thwarted.

All of this would be sadly amusing were it not for the fact that the left discovered they could force others to pay for their displays of "compassion". Thus was born Forced Compassion (tm). Forced compassion is NOT compassion. It is easy to be "compassionate" when someone else is paying the tab.

Let Teddy Kennedy and Jane Fonda bankrupt themselves, take up the lifestyle of Mother Teresa, and give all they have to the poor. Then they will have the moral stature to lecture the rest of us on the inadequacy of our compassion and charity. Otherwise, every word that drips from their smarmy mouths will be met with the whisper, "Hypocrite" in every ear.

Likewise with the Gun Grabbers. I'd like to see a law enacted nationwide that requires those who try to remove our ability for self-defense go without any firearms themselves. No armed guards for Rosie and Chuckie, no CCW for Feinstein and her ilk. Let them see how it feels to be unarmed and at the mercy of the unwashed masses. I'd call it the Practice What You Preach Act.

The fundamental root cause of Liberalism is a desire to revert to a infantile state (spoken with Austrian accent). This may overlap with an embrace of primitivism, but it explains much more completely the behavior of Liberals. Self-loathing is a byproduct, as is an ease in being manipulated by politicians offering to be a parent. The self-loathing, by the way, really revolves around hating adult-like manifestations of individual, culture & politics.

Liberal followers, or masses as they might best be called, generally view themselves as potentially happy wards of the state. Leftwing politicians often reflect a form of stupidity that is more entertaining than dangerous, like Dennis Kucinich, former idiot mayor of Cleveland and now presidential candidate. However, some politicians see the opportunity provided by a populace wishing to trade freedom for state sponsored comfort. The shrewd ones such as HRC, are as dangerous as anything threatening this country.

I was interested in the central theory in the article. Thanks for the post. I mulled it over and sort of disected it. Somewhat vaguely, I remembered conduct of people from the past. It seemed that persons tried to ingratiate themselves with others, often by putting their own class down.

I pegged them for sort of phonies, because they did not want to give up one iota ,of what made them what they were. It needs copying down and thinking over quite carefully, even if one eventually decides to reject the premise. I think there is much in it myself.

Now to better things. Last week, the Canadian National Post, recently aquired by Liberal Issy Asper, gave a preview of Ann's book. Bearing in mind pious denials of a possible future influence of Issy, on a partially conservative newspaper, they still toed the line. A blistering header appeared and I give it roughly ie: Attilla the Hon. Also "Hate and Sex sells". Must have pleased Issy.

To my surprise and delight, this Saturday was a full page excerpt from Ann's book titled. Celebrities Find Dictators Irresistable. Ah, thought I, cunning foxes, blister Ann last week, use the word hate in conjuction with her. An old leftist trick. This week, let Ann give it to 'em both barrels, full page. Covered their backsides, but let we Canadians be thankful with what we got.

Being a Christian I believe the reasons are far more complex. Rather than fearing envy, they themselves envy.

What group is it that the entire world really hates, especially liberals? Europeans? nope. Asians? nope. Africans? nope. Arabs? nope.

The group that the entire world hates are those decendents of the people that fought and won the American Revolution. That's who. Most of the world hates Jews also. Both Jews and the decendents of the American Revolution are hated with equal vigor. When Ben Ladin attacked the USofA does anyone really believe that in his minds eye he was seeing all of the other races in the Towers that would die that day? They were an aside. His aim was at white Americans and Jews.

The world hates both decendents of the American Revolution and the Jews because we are frighteningly successful. We are what they have been cheated out of being, as they see it. So when those in our own government allow them to trample us in the name of diversity and multiculturalism, they are only happy to do so and feel justified in it. But as liberals have told us, they are not racists because they have no power.

Everything has to do with the blessings bestowed by God upon the decendents of the American Revolution who founded their government on Christian principles and the Jews who God has also blessed. Everything we and our forefathers attempted was a success, all efforts were blessed as God promises to bless those nations and people that worship Him.

The rest of the world really hates that. They reduce the reasons we have been blessed down to the fact that we got here first and unfairly took over, so therefore it is ok to wrench our blessings from us via our own government, deception, flattery, greed, or war.

These people suffer under a delusion, the citizens of Germany suffered under a strong delusion and no matter what they claim now, news reels plainly show that they worshipped Hitler with a cult like devotion. This is really nothing compared to what is coming though. God has said that he will send a strong delusion so that the entire world will believe a lie and be damned. That lie being that the anti-Christ is the Messiah. All will believe it, the Asians, the S. Americans, the Africans, the Europeans, the Jews, the Arabs, and the decendents of the American Revolution both Republican and Democrat, that now ask Jesus to stay in the back room lest he embarass us in some awkward situtation that might demand we take a stand for His names sake.

To quote one French offical, "Americans hold onto their primitive notions of morality". He shouldn't worry, we are holding onto them ever more loosely. And the looser we hold them, the more attacks we suffer to our sovereignty, wealth, power, and existance. Liberals have gone over to the dark side, joining the enemies of the decendents of the American Revolution because they hate the very thought that there is a God who blesses and curses. They dispise those that know we have been blessed by God and are brave enough to say so. They are determined to erase any trace, evidence, or speculation that our wealth, or power could have in any way been the result of a God who blesses. So they fly in the face of God and redistribute His blessings as they see fit even if they have to rob the decendents of the American Revolution to do it. And God allows this because we have strayed so far from the obvious truth. We don't repent of our adultery, abortions, drug use, lying, petty thefts, as Christians many times much less as an entire nation. So while individuals may still be blessed with joy the nation as a whole is begining to crack at it's Christian foundations.

Liberals hate patriotism, they hate the Constitution unless they can make a useful tool of it, and they hate people that hold to either. Some liberals are just useful idiots, the ones I'm talking about the "enlightened" thinkers, movers and shakers. One can believe me that everything, everything from the very begining is about this war between God and the Devil, or reject what I maintain. Disbelief won't change the course of things in the end anyway.

When Christ was tempted by Satan, Satan offered Jesus all the governments of the world if Jesus would fall down and worship him, they were Satan's to give. They still are, this battle will meet it's final conclusion. From the looks of things it won't be much longer either.
