Andrew Lloyd Webber's Jesus Christ Superstar the same message was given ......
I don't remember any objections at all to either the Broadway presentation or the movie......

I live in Kansas City, and remember quite vividly the night I went to see the play.
There were protesters everywhere. It recieved a pretty good amount of publicity, as well. ( Protests made National Television News )

Same thing happened with "Last Temptation of Christ", and a movie whose title I can't recall, where a modern Jesus was born to a prostitute?

Anytime someone does the subject of Christ, there is objection and contravercy..

There were protesters everywhere...You're right - I remember there were many objections to the production essentially because it was considered by many blasphemous and mocking (I was not very happy with it myself, but now years later I understand that it makes much of the scriptures more "accessible" in a way they might not be otherwise).

My point was that I didn't recall that any of the outrage was about the specific issue of the production portraying the Jews as "Christ killers"...but that may have been mixed in with the general melee.....
