While that was a very interesting historical perspective (seriously), the bottom line is that religious discrimination is illegal TODAY, and that that is a standard based on behavior, not immutable characteristics.

Nope. You missed the whole point. The bottom line is that all common, widely implemented anti-discrimination laws are intended to protect people from being discriminated against because of immutable characteristics such as race and gender. And this includes anti-religious-discrimination laws - which as I explained are necessary in order to make the anti-racial-discrimination laws enforceable.

But an anti-sexual-orientation-discrimination law is a totally new beast - one that gives special status to a whole class of behaviors. It's an awful precedent to set, as it opens a Pandora's box of special protections for any type of behavior at all. ...... Or at least any type of behavior that Hollywood decides tomorrow is chic - which as we all know is a prelude to seeing new chic legislation coming from the bench, and a prelude to moralizing lectures from FR's Libertarian contingent - castigating us for not immediately jumping feet first into the latest fashionable New Morality Craze.
