I think in general there is nothing much to watch on TV. Too bad DirecTV does not have an a-la-cart option that lets you choose the channels you want and skip those you don't want. Does anyone know of a satellite service that does have that?

It does. You chose what channels you want to see in your guide, and if it is not listed you want go there with the channel up or down buttons.

The only way to get the channel is to punch in the exact number like "135", but with over 100 channels I don't remember what the channel numbers are. If kids don't ever see the channel listed, they will never know what the channel number is.

You shouldn't have a problem blocking specific channels from showing up on your Direct TV. Just block them at the channel guide. I've got all the sport channels and MTV blocked out so I never even know they are there.

If that service existed and the money wasn't prohibitive, an enormous slice of TV viewing would be spent watching hard core porno. Heartland no different than city folks on that particular issue.

I've also got Direct TV and I'm reasonably sure that blocking out specific channels is not a problem. I think it's an option in the bottom-of-the-screen menu on the channel guide.

The only thing I used to watch on Bravo was the occasional independent film, but they seem to be showing fewer of those and the programming has over the past year become more and more noticably and stridently gay.

It was at one time a very good channel but now most of their programming is rubbish. I wouldn't bother complaining to them directly. The steady loss of what little audience they have will force sponsors to make the same choices that led to the demise of Ellen and ol' Tub-o-Lard.
