Pheobe Debates The Theory of Evolution
Original scene from the show... Friends. ^

I was just lisening to Medved debating Creationism with Athiests on the air. I found it interesting that while Medved argued his side quite effectively from the standpoint of faith, his opponents resorted to condescension and beliitled him with statements like, "when it rains, is that God crying?" I was reminded of the best (at least most amusing)debate that I have ever heard on the subject of Creationism vs Evolution, albeit a fictional setting. It occurred on the show, Friends of all places between the characters Pheobe (The Hippy) and Ross (The Paleontologist). It went like this...
Pheebs: Okay...it's very faint, but I can still sense him in the building...GO INTO THE LIGHT MR. HECKLES!!
Ross: Whoa, whoa, whoa. What, uh, you don't believe in evolution? Pheebs: Nah. Not really. Ross: You don't believe in evolution? Pheebs: I don't know. It's just, ya know, monkeys, Darwin, ya know, it's a, it's a nice story. I just think it's a little too easy.
Ross: Uh, excuse me. Evolution is not for you to buy, Phoebe. Evolution is scientific fact. Like, like, the air we breathe, like gravity... Pheebs: Uh, okay, don't get me started on gravity.
Ross: You uh, you don't believe in gravity? Pheebs: Well, it's not so much that ya know, like I don't *believe* in it, ya know. It's just...I don't know. Lately I get the feeling that I'm not so much being pulled down, as I am being pushed.
Ross: How can you NOT BELIEVE in evolution? Pheebs: [shrugs] I unh-huh...Look at this funky shirt!!
Ross: Well, there ya go. Pheebs: Huh. So now, the REAL question is: who put those fossils there, and why...?
Ross: OPPOSABLE THUMBS!! Without evolution, how do YOU explain OPPOSABLE THUMBS?!? Pheebs: Maybe the overlords needed them to steer their spacecrafts!
Pheebs: Uh-oh! Scary Scientist Man!
Pheebs: Okay, Ross? Could you just open your mind like, *this* much?? Okay? Now wasn't there a time when the brightest minds in the world believed that the Earth was flat? And up until what, like, fifty years ago, you all thought the atom was the smallest thing, until you split it open, and this like, whole mess o' crap came out! Now, are you telling me that you are so unbelievably arrogant that you can't admit that there's a teeny, tiny possibility that you could be wrong about this?!?
Pheebs: I can't believe you caved. Ross: What? Pheebs: You just ABANDONED your whole belief system! I mean, before, I didn't agree with you, but at least I respected you. Ross: But uh.. Pheebs: Yeah...how...how are you gonna go in to work tomorrow? How...how are you gonna face the other science guys? How...how are you gonna face yourself? Oh! [Ross runs away dejected] Pheebs: That was fun. So who's hungry?

and you were told in the thread when you brought it up, all you had to do was ask.
Your claim it immediately increased is bogus
The first attempt to stifle was about bandwidth, until it was explained FR bandwidth isn't consumed by images.
Then came the "i gotta slow modem" complaint.
an immediate increase never took place.
stick with the facts

And just like that, we're "in it" with him again.
I really hope these threads don't disappear completely.
I'm beginning to think though, they will.

Questioning Genesis or pointing out contradictions it has with contemporary scientific knowledge is not rejecting God or His law. Need repeating!

keep repeating it and it will

A valid bible discussion is nothing like what OUR complaint is like.
enough of the "gee i'm too dumb to get it" game.

Andrew knows more biology than I do, and I have said so on this forum. G3k would be more effective if he didn't call mainstream scientists liars. Consider how effective it is for dems to call Bush a liar. Heck, consider how effective it was to call Clinton a liar.
Answer: put up the evidence, put it in your own words, give references, quit calling credentialed people liars.
On our side it would probably be more effective to stop laughing at the dubious credentials of the Hovinds, and start discussing their ideas directly.
I know this gets repetitive, but new lurkers are here every day.

In the interest of total accuracy, I want to correct somethintg I said in my post 385. I had said that I got pinged to the bible thread in post 566 by NewLand. That's not correct. Post 566 wasn't addressed to me. In it, NewLand
mentioned me, and said (amazingly!) that my ping list is what caused him to start the bible thread, which he then linked.
The link to the bible thread being thus visible in the evolution thread, one of the evos went there, noticed the use of my text, and notified me (post 16 of the bible thread). So the "evo trap" disguised as a bible thread worked as intended. Evos were lured in, I was pinged, and the only thing that went wrong was that neither I nor any other evo engaged in "Christian bashing." Presumably to the disapointment of those who set up the trap.

>>>>thanks for agreeing with me that evolution is not science<< is a lie. A cheap, transparent lie. Not religious doctrine at all.
Calling you a liar isn't blasphemy. Rebuking you for lying isn't blasphemy.
Lying in order to promote a pseudo-religious agenda is blasphemy. Misrepresenting the religious beliefs of Catholics - or any other Christian - in order to promote a pseudo-religious agenda is blasphemy.
Sorry if it hurts your feelings, but it's true.
As for the allegation that evolution=atheism, that's a lie, as well.

I am genuinely lost about the "immediate increase" thing. I'm not doing a Hillary; I just don't remember what that was about.
I know enough HTML to know the FR server does not store or serve the images we link. That term was corrected by me on the immediate next round of email.

And this business about calling us "Liars for Christ" and the like.
What possible excuse can anyone have for resorting to such? It's pathetic and if anything cancels out the evo-whine, that surely does!

On our side it would probably be more effective to stop laughing at the dubious credentials of the HovindsThat's tough, though. The fake degree! The ever expanding thesis! The refusal to pay taxes! The assault complaints! The bankruptcy! The 'Protocols of the Elders of Zion' recommendation!
Dammit, we get to have fun too!

And this business about calling us "Liars for Christ" and the like. There is no "us" in that comment. As you knew then, and as you know now, it was and is pointed solely at you individually. And yet you continue to prove my point by casting it as something it is not.
I said it about you because it's true. Shall I prove it?

OK, Hovind is special. But lots of geniuses had messed up personal lives. You could have fun just posting quotes that are directly related to our topics.

The attack on Hovind was an evo-tactic used directly against goodseedhomeschool in the hopes if you sunk low enough, she would be offended and leave,
it worked
you should be ashamed. Especially the lowlife maneuver of claiming Hovind supported evolutionists because he offered an evo book, but you failed to see why.
It was to EXPOSE
You knew that and your buds knew that, but you STOOPED anyway.
I suppose that would be PROOF of LYING for Darwin

"Lying in order to promote a pseudo-religious agenda is blasbhemy."
I liked that.
You apparently, in your whited sepulcher sanctimony, do not.
No one on this thread will be surprised.
