Agreed, Jim. An army first has to take the beach before it can liberate the continent. Right now, we're fighting through the hedgerows. 2004 could be a break-out election, and all subsequent elections could then represent significant retreats of liberalism.

An army first has to take the beach before it can liberate the continent.Well, as a graduate of Amphibious Warfare School, permit me to point out that the objective of a landing is to defeat the enemy's battle plan - not co-opt it. With the exception of taxes and the war, when the hell is the GOP going to stop calling in fire on our own positions?
