I've noticed that grown children who rely on their parents too long seem to become ever more resentful and angry with their parents. Their real anger comes from the realization that they should be able to stand on their own, but they can't.

I think the French have the same complex. All that history and culture, and yet they must constantly rely on the wealth and might of the upstart U.S. Hating us is the way France's leaders face the mirror each morning, and put themselves to sleep at night.

You may be right. But I think they are congenitally nasty people. Maybe it is some chromosomal thing. The human genome project ought to get on the case right away.
