[history]
SAN JOSE, California (AP) -- Peter Kerrigan encouraged friends to move to Silicon Valley throughout the 1980s and '90s, wooing them with tales of lucrative jobs in a burgeoning industry.
But he lost his network engineering job at a major telecommunications company in August 2001 and remains unemployed. Now 43, the veteran programmer is urging his 18-year-old nephew to stay in suburban Chicago and is discouraging him from pursuing degrees in computer science or engineering.

keep posting these, and I and others will keep trying to chime in on these threads. we need to wake up some of these "free trade at all costs" freepers regarding this very serious issue. the affected employees in the article, they are all Democrats now. I don't just say that sarcastically, I have friends who are suffering from this right now, they all voted for Bush, they aren't going to do it again. Their reasoning is simple, they say to me all the time "doesn't Bush realize what is going on here?".

Yeah, that's a little bit annoying about the Search feature on here. I just happened to remember the guy's name mentioned in the article.

More and more shades of what we've been talking about...and what I have been writing about.,
Thanks for the ping. I spent quite a bit of time over in India and have to say that they are closer to something we could deal with in an open market than the ChiComms.

Well, Greenspan said we don't need manufacturing jobs and I guess that we don't need tech jobs either. Did Sir Alan happen to mention which jobs it is that he thinks we ought to keep? Oh, government jobs -- I see. We're all going to work for the government. Nice!

isn't a "free trade" issue. the reason these jobs go to india and russia is because both of those countries have made it more advantageous to produce THERE, rather than HERE. For example, Russia now has a 13% flat tax on personal income. The U.S., although having relatively low tax rates, is much higher than that. Also, the U.S. has a cap gains tax at 28%, i believe, which is extremely high, and the U.S. has some of the highest corporate tax rates in the world.
Lower taxes relative to these people, and everything will come back here and stay here.

Bob Pryor, who heads the outsourcing practice of Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, said it's "naive" to think outsourcing software jobs could ruin America's tech dominance Oh sure it can, Bob. By the way, Bob, just when is it that you plan to move to Calcutta, since you're contempt for Americans is so visceral? And don't come crying when Al-Qaeda hunts you down for being an "American". There isn't any reason American kids should fight and die for your "right" to gut the country.

No kidding. "Needs fixed," as a friend of mine would say.

"The reality is that we live in a global economy and we compete against global players. We need to look at where we have strategic advantage -- whether it's resources or skills," Pryor said. "It frees up people and dollars to do much more value-added strategic things for clients." Supporting globalization...It frees them up to flip burgers or greet shoppers at Wal-Mart.

Are there management consulting firms in India?
If so, how much money can a business save by spending money with "Raji & Associates" instead of with "Bain & Company".
I think I'm going to write the Board of Dell and request that executives be outsourced to India. Just think of the potential dividends and revenue savings to be realized by chopping off a big chunk of executive salaries!
Wow! All of my underwater Dell stock might even recover enough to unload!

Their reasoning is simple, they say to me all the time "doesn't Bush realize what is going on here?". Yes, he does. He's not a conservative. He's a globalist, and he doesn't care.
