What is odd to me is the (seemingly) practically total rejection these days of natural hair texture among black women. Yes, we all alter our looks in different ways, and humankind always has, as you say, but I think it is sad that there seems to be a wholesale rejection of looks nature gives a person, these days, and a complete embracing of the media's "suggestions" on how you can look "better" by being fake... I am not black. White women have similar pressures too (in fact, there are many white women who would love to know what products and procedures can turn kinky, frizzy hair into smooth, soft, healthy-looking and straight hair - what a miracle (?). Over a certain level, I think it is all pretty silly and sad that people can't find a way to enhance and embrace who and what they ARE and what they were given without selling out and becoming media puppets.

It depends on who you talk to. Most of it is because of style and fashion, and getting unusual updo's. It is easy for us who are not in the public eye to say 'be natural' but is anyone in Hollywood natural? Christina has extensions. She probably didn't need them but she's like Madonna. Dying hair blonde so much, it falls out. I have dyed my hair blonde before to see what it looks like. Mistake. My hair is a little frizzy and a bit curly around my hairlind. My mother's black friends would tell her to straighten my hair (I'm half Italian and also have Spanish and East Indian) because that's what women do in this country. I leave my hair alone. I have a gorgeous long mane of dark brown-black slightly wavy hair that I am quite happy with. I love my hair as it says who I am and when I wore it loose in Europe all the Italians in Venice knew I was Italian just as people ask here if my mom is creole.
This is why I would NEVER go into Hollywood. You cannot be yourself.

BTW, I use Thermasilk and Vive by Loreal and go to a spanish beauty salom when I'm in and out in two hours. One also could save money big time by not processing hair.
