Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi told a conference of African leaders Saturday that Africans who are "straight" need not fear AIDS, which is ravaging many countries on the continent.
Speaking through a translator, Gadhafi drew some laughter with his reference to AIDS only affected homosexuals.
He told the closing session of the eight-day annual African Union conference, "All you have to do is observe the rules. If you are straight, you have nothing to fear from AIDS." He also described HIV, the virus that causes AIDS as "a peaceful virus, not an aggressive virus."
Of the 42 million people worldwide infected with HIV, 29 million live in sub-Saharan Africa. , at the close of the eight-day summit,
Gadhafi added in his address to 40 African heads of state that they should also not "worry about tsetse flies and mosquitoes" - which carry malaria and sleeping sickness - saying they were "God's armies" protecting Africa from its enemies, apparently foreigners.
"If they come here, they will get malaria and sleeping sickness," he said.
Malaria kills 5 million Africans a year, while sleeping sickness - also known as African trypanosomiasis - kills more than 25,000 people in Africa a year.

http://www.family.org/cforum/fnif/news/A0021388.html The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) released a report at the International AIDS Conference which runs from July 7-12 that shows more than three-quarters of the homosexual men studied were unaware they were carrying HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.
The research makes clear that many homosexual men are simply not getting tested for HIV. A spokesman for the CDC, Ron Valdiserri, told the conference that homosexual men are far and away the No. 1 carriers of the virus.
"Men who have sex with men accounted for the largest proportion of HIV diagnosis in these 25 states throughout the entire study period," Valdiserri said.

Well, he is basically correct about the AIDS There are plenty of heteros who get AIDS from dirty needles, and some from blood transfusions.

Qaddafi should have sex with a woman who has AIDS just to prove that you cannot catch the disease if you're heterosexual! Go Moammar!
To: Porterville
Worldwide, approximately 40 million people have the virus - 29 million of those are in Africa.
85 percent of all AIDS-related deaths were in Africa last year, yet less than 5 percent of Africans know their HIV status.
About 400,000 news AIDS cases were diagnosed in the U.S. last year. However in Africa, 5.6 million new cases were discovered.
14 million children around the world have lost one or both parents to AIDS.
In sub-Saharan Africa 470,000 children die each year from AIDS. Over 90 percent of them contracted the disease from their mother.
90 percent of all HIV transmission in Africa occurs through heterosexual sex.

In Africa the spread of AIDS is not from sharing needles OR anal sex..
I made the point in my intial response to note the different dynamics in the African/Third World problem vs. the Western problem, noting that Gadhafi would be correct if speaking about straight American males who don't engage in anal sex or shoot drugs.

In Africa the spread of AIDS is not from sharing needles OR anal sex.. Care to give a source for your assertion on anal sex? Do the African governments have a version of the CDC? I read the President of Liberia makes about $20,000 a year. Can the governments of Africa even afford to do a survey of HIV carriers and then investigate the claims as how they got the disease? The answer is NO they cannot. You're assertion is worthless because it cannot be backed up by any reliable data.
This indicates that you form your opinions without any information and purely on your feelings. You should not post your opinion here. You can only make others less intellegent for reading it.

It is difficult for men to get it from infected women if they're having normal sex. It would take a long time.

From: http://www.globalchange.com/craids.htm
1 in 200 of all adults globally are already infected - and the church in many nations is a major provider of compassionate care for those with AIDS
1 new infection every 15 seconds
1 million infected so far in US
More AIDS deaths in US alone each year in 1990s than in entire Vietnam War
95% of all infection globally in last 12 months is 'hetero'
Epidemic slowing down in wealthier nations where spread mainly among men who have had sex with men and among drug users
Some towns and cities in Africa have infection rates as high as 1 in 3 of those between 15 and 65
In Uganda infection rates are showing signs of decline, especially among the young
There is still no vaccine or cure
Best treatments for HIV involve multiple drug therapy e.g. AZT plus HIV protease inhibitors. These prevent viral genes from entering genes of white cells, or prevent viral production.
HIV continues to mutate rapidly.
Global infection toll to date: 80million
First five cases diagnosed 1981
As recently as 1985 doctors were still pumping infected blood into people because they thought it was safe, and 'heteros' were still thought to be largely immune
Rapid infection in poorer nations may be linked to co-factors such as other untreated transmitted diseases
Most deaths from HIV are directly related to immune damage (TB commonest cause of AIDS death) or to HIV-induced tumours.

Heres my point, you can go on google and search for AIDS info and get good factual info, it doesn't take a genuis to debunk Kaddafi and those who'd agree with his statement, also 1 in 200 people in the world have the disease...

What are you talking about??? You think it funny that one out of 200 adults have the disease??? Is it a game for you to fight with people who will not defend Kaddaffi??? You agree with Kaddaffi, do you realize that you're also defending his statement??? You are too zealous in your attacks and I know you don't mean what you are stating, I know you don't want people to die in Africa. I'm also certain that you hope the disease is eradicated.

I forgot the specifics of how Ryan White contracted it. I think it was a getting struck by lightening type of deal.
Very sad.
I clearly remember how his death was exploited and used for scare mongering by the agenda-istas.
Very despicable.

Except for the kids who get AIDS, because they were raped by AIDS ridden men who believe that having sex with a virgin will "cure" them.
Or the people who get it in a clinic because the doctor who gives you a shot does not sterilize his equipment.
Or the wives who get it because thier husbands visit prostitutes on the road and then bring it home....
Or the children who get it because MOM was infected ........
Africa. Lovely place.

I would be interested to know how many gay-hating bigots on FR think that he is right. One hundred percent right, or only ninety-nine point nine percent right?
Remember that gay-hating bigots do not spread AIDS. Gays spread AIDS. Thus, every year, approximately ten gays are killed by gay-hating bigots. Thus, every year, approximately one million gays are killed by gays. Gay-hating bigots are not the problem here. Self-indulgent, thoughtless gays are the problem.

"AIDS WAS spread in the US and Canada by a gay"
That is true, a great read on the subject is Randy Shilts book "And the Band Played on" Oh he was homosexual (i refuse to call him gay)and now long dead. Meryven Silverman was the public health king in San Fran during the period. He went from Wichita, Kansas to SF, met old Merv while he worked here a total waste of skin. His book is a great historical novel on how we and africa got to where we are.
