Today Senator Warner said that everything had been investigated and there is no evidence of anyone in this Administration putting pressure on CIA or anything else that has been written.

I hate to show my stupidity here but what is the big deal about what GWB said in his SOTUA. I don't have the quote but didn't he say that from reliable British sources they had learned that Saddam had tried to purchase uranium ore from African nations. My question is, how would one prove or disapprove that inquiries had not been made to try to make these purchases? would these inquiries necessarly leave a paper trail? Would the people that Wilson talked to admit that they had conversed with Saddam's people?

I don't understand why people are so eager to assume President Bush is a liar, or a buffoon, or someone who can't pay attention. Maybe this is just as simple as it looks on its face.

I didn't say that Bush was any of these, and I know that you would realize that - which is why I have you on my ping list. :-)

What do you say about this?

Wasn't that a great feeling today to see Nancy Reagan give the words that brought the USS Ronald Reagan to life? Had tears streaming down my face for a large part of that ceremony! Just made me so proud to be an American and to have President Reagan and Nancy honored this way!

I agree with you 100%, PhiKapMom. If I were to write about how Wall Street is sensing a turnaround in a particular segment of the tech sector and wanted Freeper input into who was buying what kind of computer hardware these days, but didn't tell you all I'm a portfolio manager, I think a lot of Freepers would be understandably feeling used.

Maybe this is just as simple as it looks on its face.

Yes, yes, yes!!!

The problem here is that there are some people on one side who will attempt to make it appear as if the President intentionally lied and there are some people on the other side who will deny that there was any mistake at all.

However, when all is said and done, if the White House handles the issue properly, most folks will understand that it is, as you say, "just as simple as it looks on its face."

I have it from a very convincing source in contact with such persons who vouches most intensely for Tenent's orthodox and intense spirituality . . . that Tenent is incredibly high in integrity, patriotism etc.

Before hearing from my source in person . . . I was incredulous that he was held over from Clinton's days. Now, I'm withholding judgment wholesale and giving him plenty of grace to work in behalf of The Republic and The Kingdom.

His job has to be full of incredible pitfalls, mirrors, various levels of educated guessing etc.

I suspect there's more than sufficient evidence for the nuclear uranium searching stuff on the part of Saddddammnn.

The now evident 'fact' that ONE given bit of intelligence was exceedingly 'flawed' at best is probably not all that significant in the whole mix of intel. I suspect the more telling intel is still so classified that it may not be used even in bailing out the President or Tenent.

I personally never had ANY doubt that Saddddamnn was doing all he could to stockpile as much uranium as possible. I still have 0.00% doubt of that. The intel and proof may or may not demonstrate that in any kind of convenient timeline.

The man's character and sadistic megalomaniacal goals are sufficient for me to be absolutely convinced of such efforts on his part. I need no educated guesswork of a miriad of agents credible or less so.

Besides . . . human error is rather common and I have no trouble giving grace for it.

To presume to KNOW EMPHATICALLY AND EVEN REMOTELY COMPLETELY about even one tiny sliver of "REALITY" from our public stage what is REALLY GOING ON at various highly secret levels is foolishness and arrogance it seems to me.

Of course the democruds are Olympic medalists at such foolishness. I have no need to join them.

But, no, Cathryn Crawford wants to add some crutches to those tiny little caterpillar legs and throw some more accusations at President Bush. (and her little friends are hopping right after her) And, I have no doubt it is President Bush she is going after. But, unfortunately for Cathryn and her democrat friends this is a nothing-burger.

Lay out the proof that Miss Crawford is a Bush-hater. Lay out the proof that she's a DNC shill.

Did anyone even hear about yellow cake until last week? I never did. It's sort of like when the media all began using the word gravitas. They all get the DNC memo and that's all they can talk about.

To avoid the appearance of impropriety, Bush relieves Tenet of his duties and puts in a more competent person.

But this isn't happening. Bush is supporting Tenet.

"I guess you and I (after 100+ postings) are the only ones that find that interesting. Did Cheney send him over there? Did he go on his own accord? Did he meet with anyone? Is he making this up?"

From what I can tell it was "CIA's counter-proliferation experts, on their own initiative" .. but not sure who that is?

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/944614/posts
Text of CIA Director Tenet's Statement

CIA's counter-proliferation experts, on their own initiative, asked an individual with ties to the region to make a visit to see what he could learn. He reported back to us that one of the former Nigerian officials he met stated that he was unaware of any contract being signed between Niger and rogue states for the sale of uranium during his tenure in office. The same former official also said that in June 1999 a businessman approached him and insisted that the former official meet with an Iraqi delegation to discuss "expanding commercial relations" between Iraq and Niger. The former official interpreted the overture as an attempt to discuss uranium sales. The former officials also offered details regarding Niger's processes for monitoring and transporting uranium that suggested it would be very unlikely that material could be illicitly diverted. There was no mention in the report of forged documents or any suggestion of the existence of documents at all.

Just got back. Haven't read the posts yet.

1. The buck stops at the president. Period. He's the CEO. He is to BLAME for at least PART of it.

2. Tenet admitted the CIA was at fault. He's in charge of that ;division;. Bush kept him on board.

3. Bush says he trusts Tenet(A Klinton boy if I may add). The CIA fouled up.

It's time to make sure that this doesn't happen again. Mistakes on this level are not acceptable. What have they missed?

It time for some heads to roll. At MININUM, Tenet needs to clean house. If he doesn't Bush needs to either fire Tenet or 'boot him upstairs' into a deskjob away from CIA. The buck stops at the President. The question is this. What will he do?

I saw that. But we need names. We need to investigate why they decided to take this initiative, and why they chose this radical peacenick who would be right at home at any International A.N.S.W.E.R. rally.

(I know you don't have the names, Dog)

No big deal to the American people it seems and you and they are correct.

But see the media in DC is bored they wanted an impeachment to talk about while dining BBQ at Buffy's out in Georgetown..

So they are frothing at the mouth demanding the American people come to their senses..

And if Bush did lie, so what? I learned that from the dems. Lying is ok, and no one cares. Clinton could lie under oath, and the dembots told us it didn't matter, as long as everyone was happy and the job got done. Well, the job got done.

Better to stick to your own principles and visit political punishment condign on George W. Bush (within your own judgment of what is appropriate), and then handle the Democrats by broad, incisive, and frankly destructive exposition of their cynicism and worthlessness.
