The balance of the evidence supports the fact the attackers knew this was a U.S. ship. If they knew, why were they talking about an Egyptian ship? The radio transmissions, now verified by the US government, supports the Israelis claim that they thought it was an Egyptian ship. There is NO evidence that the Israelis knew it was an American ship. No evidence at all. Only Monday Morning Quarterbacking (ie they should have known).

The communications were only for two rescue helicopters who were involved well after the attacks. It was not important for them to accurately know the identify of the ship to perform their mission. I would be much more interested in the communications involving the earlier recon and attack aircraft. These have been kept secret, however.
