Did you have a room to do it in? I would like to make a lifter but I don't have a spare room to use. Suppose I could do it in the yard. Then again I'm a little leary of 20kV.

I made it in my garage. It was a small lifter. Heres a website that shows you how to build one.

Then again I'm a little leary of 20kV.

Does a B&W television scare you?
It contains a "high voltage transformer" that generates 20kV.
The high voltage is what creates the "electron beam" in the television tube, and excites the phosphors on the screen, creating the tv image.

Color television high voltage transformers operate at about 35kV.

A little caution is necessary, and of course, some basic electronics training should be considered, but remember, it's not the voltage you should be concerned about, it's the amperage (current) that kills you.
