>>why believe the Genesis story literally?<<

Many have pointed out on this thread that fundamentalists don't read the entire Bible literally, just parts of it. But when asked, they can't or won't give a good explanation.

I was curious about fundamentalism, so have been researching it, and so far what I am coming across is that fundamentalism was started specifically (in large part) in order to combat the teaching of evolution.

This is why they exist. It's their raison d?être.

Why ask why? Fish gotta swim, birds gotta fly, and fundamentalists gotta believe Genesis literally. Otherwise, they aren't fundamentalists.

I have no problem with what you write. I have no idea how you even set up a time coordinate for an omnipresent Deity. I found the Schroeder reference entertaining, though I'm not sure I'd take it that seriously.

forget ever being accepted by the scientific community

Is that a promise? I don't think that is a priority, when compared to being accepted in God's Kingdom for eternity.

Have you thought about that Jr?

Interesting, because Islamic fundamentalism, which seems to reject much more of the modern world than Christian fundamentalism, seems to have trained its sights on evolution only recently, and seems to be borrowing heavily from Christian fundamentalist material in doing so.

What is this thing you guys have with understanding Evolution=hell?

I see, so if I do NOT take genesis literally, then I am going to hell, even if I am a christian otherwise, believe basically the same thing, but do not take the fundamentalist/literalist view, I will go to hell?

Is that right?

Is that what you are saying?

Geez, you guys are just too funny sometimes...

Once more, nowhere in the Bible does it say, "Believe in a literal interpretation of Genesis, or you are doomed to Hell."

And, y'all are the ones wanting creationism taught in science class. If you don't have evidence to support your "theory" you don't have a dog in this hunt.

I want to take this time to thank each and every one of you for the great information you have provided. You have all taught me more than you know. I will not be returning to this thread and perhaps not to FR at all in the near future. I will just read and shut up because you all do not want to hear anything other than your own points of view. You have taught me that the "conservative "party is far from what I thought it was. You have shed tremendous light on things I only now after coming here, never knew about my own political party. I won't leave FR, but I think none of you really care what anyone other than your own religion of evolution, believes, so why bother. We could argue all day long and never agree on anything. I would love to hear more about other conservative parties if they exist.
In the meantime, the warning lables will go into effect, of that I am sure. Truth will prevail. I will spend more of my time seeing that this happens.
Have a great day and goodbye to this thread.

Are the Islamists doing it too? Well, well, politics does make strange bedfellows.
