Just on a lark I checked this myself just now. There are indeed some supporting web accounts of the sub's duty tours, see subnet's account:
USS AMBERJACK (SS-522)
dp. 1870 tons (surf.), 2416 tons (subm.); l. 311.8'; b. 27.1';
s. 20.25k (surf.), 8.75k (subm.); td. 400'; a. 1-3"/50, 6-21" tt. fwd., 4-21" tt. aft.;
cpl. 6 officers - 60 enlisted men; cl. "TENCH"
Keel laid down by the Boston Naval Shipyard, Boston, MA, 8FEB44;
Launched: 15DEC44; Sponsored by Mrs. Walter E. Lang, Jr.;
Commissioned 4MAR46 with Cdr William B. Parham in command;
Decommissioned, stuck from the Navy List and sold to Brazil 17OCT73.
Following shakedown training in the West Indies and in the Gulf of Mexico, USS AMBERJACK (SS-522) reported on 17 June for duty with SubRon8. Operating out of the Submarine Base, New London, CT, she conducted training missions in the North Atlantic, and, in November 1946, made a cruise above the Arctic Circle. In January 1947, the submarine entered the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for extensive modifications and thereafter spent about a year undergoing a Guppy II conversion during which her hull and sail were streamlined and additional batteries and a snorkel were installed to increase her submerged speed endurance, and maneuverability. In January 1948, she reported for duty with SubRon4 based at Key West, FL. She operated along the east coast and in the West Indies for a little more than 11 years. Her schedule included the development of tactics and independent ship exercises, type training, periodic overhauls and fleet exercises. During this period, she also visited numerous Caribbean ports. In July of 1952, AMBERJACK was transferred to the newly established SubRon12, though she remained based at Key West and her employment continued as before.
Early in August 1959, after more than 11 years of operations out of Key West, the submarine's home port was changed to Charleston, SC. She arrived there on the 8th and reported for duty with her former squadron, SubRon4. While working out of her new home port, AMBERJACK's operations remained much as they had been before with one significant difference: she began making deployments to European waters. In August, September and October of 1960, the submarine participated in a NATO exercise before making a week-long port visit to Portsmouth, England. She returned to Charleston late in October and resumed her normal duties. Between May and September of 1961, the warship deployed to the Mediterranean Sea for duty in the 6th Fleet. After a three-year interlude operating along the east coast and in the West Indies, AMBERJACK made another Mediterranean cruise between 7 July and 1 November 1964. She spent the ensuing 29 months working out of Charleston. In 1967, the submarine made a three-month deployment to the Mediterranean between 23 April and 24 July. On 2 September 1969, following another 25 months of operations along the east coast and in the West Indies, she embarked upon her last Charleston-based tour of duty in European waters during which she participated in another NATO exercise with units of the British, Canadian, and Dutch navies. At the conclusion of the exercise, AMBERJACK visited a number of ports in northern Europe before returning to Charleston on 12 December 1969.
On 9 July 1970, AMBERJACK arrived in her new home port, Key West, her base for the remainder of her service in the American Navy. She made her last deployment to the Mediterranean between 27 November 1972 and 30 March 1973. On 17 October 1973, AMBERJACK was decommissioned at Key West, and her name was struck from the Navy list. That same day, she was transferred to the Brazilian Navy and commissioned as Cerea (S-12).

This the fish? That would be one of several reported in the area at the time, and the one from which the events were photographed/filmed.

So you were posting under the name AveMaria too? Until that one got banned.
You saved your agent provocateur threads for the seemingly stupid/naive AveMaria. If untrue, let me know.

Please note a detailed account in, I think, the book is Body of Lies, all about the NSA, which details the Israeli 'execution' of Liberty. Written by lib media guy-the title is really misleading-entire text just string of anecdoatal stories. Liberty is there because it makes our gov & Israel look bad. the ship was close to action of war & Israel was determined to stop their intercept of communication about execution of hostiles.

Well, long time no see, "Hyperbolic Observer".
Running "AveMaria" and "ComtedeMaistre" at the same time, huh? You always were something of a retard, LeCompteB :)).
And I see you still have your aol pages although you have tried to sanitize them - just the ardinary crackpot stuff left. Chemically free for racewar entries, except for this rather obscure thing in one of your page urls:

The new book by Richard Helms (Director of Central Intelligence in 1967) published posthumously reveals that the CIA board of inquiry into the Liberty incident held at the time concluded that the Israeli attack was deliberate. It's obvious from Helm's short account of the incident that he shared that belief.

This thread was started by AveMaria. It was on the USS Liberty and was pulled on Saturday after it got 50 responses. The title was "Are the Brave Americans Who Served On the USS Liberty in 1967, Liars?"
This is the thread. Read what it says--->

The terrible thing about AveMaria was that whole kosher food thread.
If AM and this ComtedeMaistre are linked, this sheds new light on CdM's post a couple months back about "neocons."
It'd be excusable to dislike "neocons" whatever the hell that term means. It'd be forgiveable to be concerned about the Liberty. But combine that with the kosher food thread, and you have a flaming anti-semite, good ol' jew-hater-posing-as-conservative.

I will ping you when ComtedeMaistre replies. You are right that evidence adds up. We had anti Semites who sorta kept their kool here but (eventually) lost it and were banned. When they show up at LibertyForum you find out what they really think and it ain't very pretty.

The Kosher thread was good. I was glad to see that 95% of posts slammed her harebrained logic. Or was AveMaria a put on by someone more clever?

Thanks.
I wonder, should I travel over to LibertyForum to see what kind of garbage they're spewing and is it well-hidden or in plain view?

In plain view last time I looked. LF anti Semitism is always there but peaks when Israel is in the news. It might be subdued today. Last year when Israel went into Jenin/West Bank it was insane at LF.
