Also, kindly note that the A-1 Skyraider was not an ASW bird, it was a strike aircraft.

Actually the Skyraider was cleared to carry W-7 and W-34 depth charges. (When you've got 10KT to play with, great accuracy isn't that important) But that was in the '50s and early 60's, not 1967.

They could still execute laydown deliveries with W7s and W43s.

BTW, VA-176 on the Saratoga was flying Skyraiders at the time.
