biography of Ben Franklin today.

Which one did you order? I'm reading H.W. Brands' "The First American: The Life and Times of Benjamin Franklin".

I'm reading H.W. Brands' "The First American: The Life and Times of Benjamin Franklin".

Do you recommend it? I watched "1776" on Independence Day, and now I have a hankering to learn more about Dr. Franklin! :-)

"Benjamin Franklin"
Edmund S. Morgan, Benjamin Franklin;

I have an antique copy of Franklin's autobiography. If you have never read it, I'd suggest it. Very enlightening. Wish I'd also order a new readable copy of it.

Yes, I've enjoyed it so far. I'm almost halfway through it. It seems well researched with a slight pro-Franklin slant. Franklin's genius awes me. My only disappointment is there aren't any pictures! You can get it in softcover at Barnes & Noble.

'Evening, ladies and bucks,

Just a quick fly-by tonight, I was about to close it out and saw the thread. We've got some storms closing in by the approaching sound of rolling thunder, and I hate to be on the computer when there's lighting out.

I don't know if I should even be worried about that... but I am. I'll check in tomorrow to see what gossip I've missed.

I think they make him wear that 'vest' for protection. It's a wonder he can even swing a club with that on.

Thank you, I'll look for his autobiography. It's quoted extensively in the biography I'm reading. I checked Brands' source notes and he says numerous editions of the autobiography exist and he cites one published in 1964 by Yale University Press. It would be interesting to know how that edition differs from yours. How old is yours?

Last summer I read FOUNDING BROTHERS, JOHN ADAMS, and APRIL 1865. Even though the last book was about the Civil War it gave me a much better understanding of the Revolutionary period.... and how slavery was an unfinished issue then and eventually resolved a hundred years later.

Did you enjoy 1776. First saw it in l976 then again this spring. Bawled like a baby when they began reading the names of the signer. My 5th great grandfathers had signed the Bradford Accords. (One spent the winter at VF, spied on the German troops...GW referred to him as "the little Dutchman") We owe our ancestors alot.

Howard Dean better watch his back, The Clintonista's (Bill, Hill & Terry) are nobody to be crossing. Many who have and up either commiting Arkancide, or die in a plane crash.
