The difficulties faced by Congressional Democrats in holding their strength in the Senate and House next year let alone regaining majorities are on vivid display in Georgia, a state that figured prominently in the party's loss of Senate control in 2002. Zell Miller, a Democrat, is quitting the Senate, and no prominent party member has yet stepped forward to contend for the job. But at least four Republicans, two House members and two businessmen, have begun campaigns to take the seat out of the opposition column.
