Maybe, but "The buck stops here" is equally convoluted. The whiners on FR seem to not want to do anything except cry about what a disappointment GW is, when he has very little to do directly with the issues they're up in arms about.

What is the source of this need to constantly make excuses for the Bushes?

More than any other politician, President Bush is behind the push to expand the welfare state with his prescription drug scam.

President Bush also could have done a hell of a lot more to fight the influx of Illegals into this country, and 9/11 offered him a ripe opportunity. Aside from a few WoT related measures, the President's most significant effort on this matter was to try and get a stealth Section 245(i) mini-Amnesty inserted into a Homeland Security bill at the last minute. Not only would this measure have penalized tens of thousands of candidates for legal immigration, Amnesties actually encourage more Illegal Aliens to come into the country. Bush hasn't sat on his hands, he's tried to make the problem worse.

Additionally, Bush has done nothing to stop the acceptance of Mexican matricula counsular IDs by businesses and municipalities, despite the fact that they negatively impact document fraud, drug smuggling, and anti-terrorism efforts. The Mexican ID problem not only developed on Bush's watch, it did so after 9/11. This is not an "old problem that can't be solved overnight," this is a new problem that Bush has chosen not to prevent, or solve.

"The buck stops here" isn't convoluted at all, unlike the alibis that are tossed off to abet the President in avoiding accountability.

Did you even read my post thoroughly? I'm not making excuses for anybody. Insert the name of any president you like. Bush can't change any of those things, save the rider he supposedly introduced, anymore than he can raise or lower your taxes.

I guess I must be talking to you, even though originally I thought you must be one of the rational ones. Get involved and do your part, or knock it off. Put up, or shut up. But sitting around here and wringing your hands won't change squat.
