No, no, I was raised by Southern protestants...the "Battle Hymn of the Republic" was a YANKEE song. ;-) We told her that for years but it was ingrained in her that "Amazing Grace" and "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" were Southern Protestant songs, by either the Nuns or my Grandparents.
There are problably some neo-confederates on FR reading this thread right now and having heart palapataions that one person in the US thought for most of her life that "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" was a hymn associated with the South.

Oh.......you forgot a weakened military, being at the mercy of terrorism, membership in the ICC, no tax cut, continued erosion of morals and endorsement of the slaughter of preborn infants.......
Yeah, you're right. There's no difference between George W. Bush and any old Rat.......
gimme a break......

>>>Maybe you are a little defensive.I will defend PresReagan as necessary. That you can bet on.
>>>President Bush is respective of and honors President Reagan, why shouldn't he? President Reagan was a great President.
I wasn't questioning PresBush`s respect and admiration of PresReagan. I was questioning your dismissive attitude about the Reagan Era.
Granted, PresBush faces a different set of specific problems then PresReagan did in the 1980`s. But like Reagan, Bush believes in supply side economics, tax cuts, a strong defense, the pro-life agenda and defending America, whether it be the Cold War or the War on Terrorism. There's a special bond between these two men that transcends the short time frame between their Presidencies.
>>> Now you have a nice day....
Stop the dismissive crap. Okay!
To: Amelia
Inertia, I guess...and remembering the old days when he only said stuff like that as a joke, and hoping he'd get back to being like that.

Ahhhh crap...I give up, this thread is now inundated with petty quarrels between posters and baseless arguments from uninformed people, not researched facts. I thought we were building a list...why can't people stick to the subject at hand? {rolling my eyes, throwing up my hands and walking away}...
To: ravingnutter
Thanks!
Added to the first list.

I live in a very Catholic area. My Lutheran confirmation class graduated 5 kids while the Catholic CCD had something like 60 or so. People around here are very misinformed about protestantism. Over the years while discussing religion with people I've heard people say that they think...
- Lutherans don't believe in communion.
- Lutherans don't celebrate Easter
- Lutherans do celbrate Easter, but at a different date a la Eastern Orthodox.
- Lutherans don't believe in the Trinity.
- Lutheranism is a sect of Messianic Judaism. (That one's my favorite)

Of course it begs the question, who is a REAL conservative?Oh, that's easy......just ask any of the hard righters around here.....
The only REAL conservatives are those who follow their own personal wishes to a tee, say exactly what they want them to say, exactly when they want it said.......the rest of us are koolaid drinking RINO sheeple....
Excuse the sarcasm, but some of these ideologues make me physically ill.....
What I meant by that, is that most conservatives want what's best for the country because we love America, and are pleased that things are moving in a direction that we like.
Many of us thought that America was swirling hopelessly down the toilet during the 8 xlinton years, and are thrilled with the amazing reversal that's happened in the last 2 and a half years, and we think that some of these bashers are, well, downright stupid not to see how much better off we are because of the principled leadership of George W. Bush.

George W. is responsible for "the motion toward the values [conservatives] believe to be important" George W. has been responsible for the greatest expansion of government in the last 40 years: Medicare expansion, expansion of the child tax credit to non-taxpayers, the farm-subsidy bill. Well also throw in his support for the assault weapons ban (enough, I'm tired). A Democrat would have never gotten away with half of this. He would have been labeled a left wing extremist and Delay could have blocked these bills without fear of undermining a president from his own party. Government gridlock is the best chance we have of advancing the conservative ideals because the Republican party obviously does not stand for it anymore.
To: justshe
Some of his nominees are fairly conservative. I don't think any are strict constructionists.
You forgot to mention the enormous increase in federal spending on education, all of which is unconstitutional.
You forgot to mention the prescription drug program he is pushing, which is unconstitutional.
You forgot to mention the Patriot Act, which is unconstitutional.
Bush is better than any democrat, but he is still socialist-lite.
To: rcofdayton
. . . and the campaign finance reform bill he signed after implying himself that he recognized it to be unconstitutional.

I have no doubt that a lot of people misunderstand other religions, but all I was doing was giving an anecdote about my Mother's innocent misperceptions of some hymnals.
It isn't like she was ready to go out in the street with a pitchfork and burn down the local Lutheran church.

Let me guess.........you aren't, nor ever were a Republican, are you?
And you didn't vote for George W. Bush in 2000 either, did you?
btw, I don't have time to read through this entire thread, but did you even read the list of conservative accomplishments in the article, or did you just jump onto the thread to vent??

The CFR bill is already on both lists, once for having signed it...and per another poster's request, the need for it to be rescinded.
