The Vast Dubya & DeLay Conspiracy

June 30, 2003

Depending on where you go and in what circles you travel, conservatives are livid with the Bush administration. Some, more so than others, are furious over the size of the federal budget, the failing to rein in any kind of spending, tax cuts for people who don't pay taxes, the Medicare prescription drug benefit, the list continues - and there’s a great deal of head scratching going on.

I came across an Associated Press story over the weekend that attempts to shed some light on what’s happening, which you can hear me read in the audio links below. However, the story seems to imply there’s a conspiracy between the White House and House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas.

Here’s just one excerpt: “DeLay has become the most identifiable representative of the party's right wing, and the two Texans have had a sometimes scrappy relationship. Clashes may become more frequent as Bush moves beyond his current phase of fund raising among loyal Republicans and shifts his attention to the general electorate, analysts suggest. At the same time, Bush and his advisers are mindful that if they go too far, they could alienate conservatives whose support he needs. ‘Bush is carefully picking and choosing his fights,’ said GOP consultant Scott Reed. ‘There's a healthy back and forth between the White House staff and DeLay that is mutually beneficial to both.’”

The story continues to suggest that Bush is telling DeLay to go ahead and stop what he’s trying to do - on purpose. The idea being that Bush can thus claim credit for supporting whatever measure, while DeLay and other conservatives can point to victory for blocking its ultimate passage. A caller later asked: “Isn't this the same strategy that Bush used on campaign finance reform, only he is counting on the Supreme Court to shoot it down?” You can hear my answer below.

Speaking of "his JOB", does he have one? You know, like one that pays him money for work? I've wondered about this since he seems to always be here.

Good question. I considered once that the DNC might actually pay him to disrupt FR, but decided there probably aren't enough people here who pay attention to him to justify that....

On the other hand, I've seen him post that he also spews on several other websites, but I haven't bothered to verify that myself.

Dick Morris' predictions are pretty bad. He misses most of them so why should we worry about what he has to say. He's pretty irrelevant but fun to listen to anyway.

So what you're saying is that you sell cheap stuff to sucker "clients".......sorta like what you do here: cheap shots against Bush, hoping to snare a "client" for your biases.

That is the single most important problem in American today, liberal judges who vote against conservative values and for liberal ones. This has to change or we are in big trouble and for decades to come. Clinton damaged us more than we will probably ever know because of these judges.

Why don't you hold Bush accountable for his liberal agenda instead of worrying about what I do for money.

No --- you've been run over by subtlety and logic that is over your head.

As in: "I have seen the truth, but it makes no sense."

Hmmm. How interesting! I didn't know that Todd was an antique dealer, just like me! Wow!

Todd, do you have a specialty? Do you handle smalls or furniture? Do you sell on e-Bay?

Do you have booth space or do you simply handle stuff over the net? What kind of stuff are you finding at garage sales? I have found that the finding of bargains for dealers has evaporated here in the Midwest since the popularity of "The Antique Road Show" has made everyone think all of their junk is priceless treasure. Is New York still a good place to find bargains?

"The problem, however, is that it seems like our President is spraying Round-Up on the rose bush and feeding Miracle-Gro to the weeds."
I think a bit of perspective is needed. This is not a complete list, by any means, nor is it posted in any order. But it sure doesn't look like "ROUND-UP" to me. Are there issues still not addressed or taken care of? Of course. But damn....lets give some credit where credit is due. He has done a LOT, considering the time in office and the tragedies/crisis that have been forced upon him.

Presidency of George W. Bush    --the first 30 months

Killed the Kyoto Global Warming Treaty.

Killed U.S. involvement in the International Criminal Court.

Killed the U.S. - CCCP ABM Treaty that was preventing the U.S. from deploying our ABM defenses.

Reversed Clinton's move to strike Reagan's anti-abortion Mexico Policy.

Killed Clinton's CO2 rules that were choking off all of the electricity surplus to California.

Changed the tone in the White House, restoring HONOR and DIGNITY to the Presidency

Reorganized bureaucracy...after 9/11, condensed 20+ overlapping agencies and their intelligence sectors into one agency:  the Department of Homeland Security.

Initiated discussion on Social security and individual investment accounts.

Improving govt. efficiency with .8 million jobs put up for bid...weakening unions and cutting undeserved pay raises. Wants merit based promotions/raises only.

Executed a WAR ON TERROR by getting world-wide cooperation to track funds/terrorists (has cut off much of the terrorist's funding and captured or killed many key leaders of the al Qaeda network)

My hope is to change the culture from one that has said, if it feels good, do it; if you've got a problem, blame somebody else -- to one in which every single American understands that he or she are responsible for the decisions that you make; you're responsible for loving your children with all your heart and all your soul; you're responsible for being involved with the quality of the education of your children; you're responsible for making sure the community in which you live is safe; you're responsible for loving your neighbor, just like you would like to be loved yourself. "And you're expecting President Bush to do what?"

The same thing I expected him to do in the controversy about the semi-automatic weapons - stop the damn cop-out!
I expect him to have the courage to say that this ban does NOT protect our unborn. It's a sham to make us feel warm and fuzzy when babies are still being slaughtered.
