I can hear some of the responses like oh they can't do it or let them do it is too dangerous (the cowards around here). I say we better get our heads out of our asses and start thinking about the future of this nation is space and start learning that life is dangerous no matter what we do!

Gee what a surprise a bunch of reds wanting to claim the red planet all for themselves.

I say we better get our heads out of our asses and start thinking about the future of this nation is space and start learning that life is dangerous no matter what we do!

AMEN to that Brother!!! Your statement applies to more than just this situation!

Ridiculous propaganda from a SARS infested country with one flush toilet for every 200 people.

If the DNC can get back in power, then NASA secrets will once again be on sale to the Chinese.

...China would carry out long-term Mars exploration...

Great idea! Fantastic! Let 'em HAVE Mars: far enough away to keep them out of our hair! Greater than 6 months away too: better for them to be SOL if they run into trouble.

Just KEEP 'em OFF of the Moon: if they ever get there (3 days away) and start an observation/launch platform facing the Earth then we're ALL gonna be screwed.

They would be better off if they spent the time and money figuring out how sewers work.

"China Keeps Its Sight On Long-Term Mars Exploration"

Good! I welcome any competition that will keep our space program moving forward.

Perhaps true. But the missile technology gift from the Clintons seems to be paying dividends long after Dogpatch is over.

It must be nice to be so blissfully ignorant. The Soviets were communist, but they got to space first, and sent many probes and unmanned missions to Venus. People like you will be claiming five years from now that China is still "SARS infested" even though all evidence is to the contrary. If your absurd claims were true, China would have hundreds of thousands of infections by now, and would be in open revolt, as you people predicted it would be a few months ago. Of course, now that your predictions are proved untrue, it must just be that the Chinese are somehow concealing countless thousands of cases, because there is no way you could be wrong.

Ridiculous propaganda

Unlike the youth of this country, the youth of China is greatly interested in space exploration and development. Which has the best odds of exploring and developing space, those who are interested or those who aren't? The relative degree of technological development at this time doesn't matter. Mars exploration and development will prove to be a simple task and not particularly expensive unless NASA does it. Exploration and development of the moon will be horrendously expensive in the near term; eventually the moon will reach an economic breakpoint after which the moon will also be not particularly expensive.

You are mind-bogglingly wrong. SARS is still endemic in China, in the south and in the poverty-numbed provinces. Bejing SARS is under control, but this may simply mean as some researchers have suggested, that the disease spreads more slowly in hot weather.

Think of how hard it is to eradicate SARS in Canada with a relatively sophisticated system of health care. If you then use your neurons and believe that the toilet-free Provinces (where running water is a great rarity) are SARS free, you have a major screw loose.

As far as your claims that China will be flying men to the Moon and to Mars anytime within what might be reasonably considered "soon," well there is more obvious missing cognitive equipment.
