Look, the only people that didn't abandon Jesus to His death were John, His Mother, and the other women mentioned. The Bible is silent on a lot of things. The only people who know what happened completely are no longer with us. Their mere presence is a lot more courageous than the rest of His chosen band, 10 of which abandoned Him, and one who betrayed Him. I wish you could let go of your "Catholics are pagans" bandwagon for once.

However, the practice of attributing characteristics and practices to Mary that are not in the Bible can lead to bad theology, by Catholic, Protestant...whomever.

To be fair to Peter, he was confused when he took a sword and tried to defend Jesus from arrest, and was told to stop fighting. He just didn't understand.

He did follow along and tried to be near Him even though he denied Him.
